Why is buckshot more expensive?

Hello.

Something has been sticking in my head for a while.

Why is it that buckshot is significantly more expensive than shells loaded with birdshot?

Is it that it is more difficult, or more involved to create the larger shot pellets, rather than just using a shot tower?

I'm not complaining, just curious.

I appreciate any insight you may have.

Regards
-Ben

Just a guess, but I'd say supply & demand.

More bird shot wanted = less expensive/less buck wanted = cost more.

Labgrade's right, and most modern buck is swaged rather than dropped or cast.

Ammo companies produce more birdshot than buckshot. Hence, supply and demand.
