I just got to shoot my CZ-52 today for the first time.:what: Man, these guns are fun! I can't believe the power they have. I didn't know Europe had anything bigger than a .32.:neener:

I shot some S&B and some surplus stuff on 8 round stripper clips and they all worked fine and shot well. The surplus stuff was markedly hotter and much more fun to shoot. It felt like I had a semi-auto .357 in my hand. Why aren't these guns more popular? I think I am going to buy another one before the price gets crazy. These things are pure cool.

They aren't more popular because they are butt-ugly... :neener:

Actually, I think your average-joe gun buyer doesn't buy them because they are commie-manufacture and they have heavy triggers and the euro-mag release.

Just don't decock the thing without pointing downrange!!! :what: :uhoh:

The CZ-52. The poor man's Automag? No. CZ-52's work.
I didn't know Europe had anything bigger than a .32. It is a .32 caliber. Actually, I think it is a bit smaller. IIRC the .32 ACP is .311" in diameter, while the CZ-52 uses a 7.62 round, which makes it a .308.

Oooh, neat! I've always wanted a CZ-52. If I didn't live in the PRK I'd get an C&R license and a CZ-52 in a heartbeat!

I agree the CZ52 is a great deal and a lot of fun. While not legal in most pistol shoots (IDPA,USPSA,etc) the 7.62x25 round power factors higher than many 9mm loads. The biggest down side is I know of no HP/self defense ammo. And it is ugly. Make sure you clean it right after shooting surplus ammo. I don't know of any that isn't corrosive.

S&B isnt corrosive as its usually new production ammo. Some surpluis ammo/stripper clips are very very hot...we chronoed some at over 1750 FPS....SMOKIN.....getting into 357 Mag/Sig energies.....
Thats why some of it feels like a Mag to shoot....
JHPs would be a very very good thing....
except that even with the little bullet..your likely to have over penetration problems with the higher velocities....
They are amazingly acccurate even out to 50 yds....
Shoot well

I wish the two at the two local dealers were less expensive, then I would pick it up and add the external slide release.

Saw a customized one in a magazine article that was really nice.

And I would like to look at the recoil mechanism some more too.

Yet another, maybe later gun.

I've been calling my Tokarev a .32 Automag for a while now - glad someone agrees with me! :D

Despite what PCRCCW said, I have heard, and probably many other possible buyers have heard that the 52 is not accurate. Perhaps it's an ammo thing? I don't know either way, just got these conflicting reports.

Anybody have any bench groups?

7.62x25 is normally loaded with a bullet in the 80-90gr range. The loads I chrono'd out of my friend's CZ-52 were:

7.62x25 Norinco Non-Corr Yellow Box, Bimet case: 1452, sd 10.0
7.62x25 S&B 85gr Green Box: 1452, sd 9.59
7.62x25 S&B 85gr Pink Box: 1447, sd 6.48
7.62x25 Chinese Surlpus, Bimet, Military: 1486, sd 6.08

While this may seem "really fast" and neato, remember that it's easy to load a 90gr JHP in 9x19 at 1500-1550 fps.

And given that choice in 9x19: 90gr@1550fps, or 124gr@1280fps, which are you going to choose and why?

Thats the stuff! I like it that way! The S&B is fine but when you want to make a big boom, that surplus stuff is cool. I was shooting into a field (not a public range) and the mud did fly!:D I was also shooting at plastic buckets and assorted junk, when I hit the bucket just right, it would fly 15-20 feet in the air! I haven't seen this type of impact from any 9mm ammo.

As for accuracy, I did put it on paper a few times but didn't do a lot of serious target work. This gun is too much fun for that. It is clearly above average in terms of accuracy for a full sized service pistol. More accurate than a typical Ruger auto but less accurate than a good revolver. Some of that may have to do with ammo and trigger pull which is a little heavy but not real bad. I don't think I would even bother trying to get it to be better. It is decent and I want a little extra weight to the pull for this gun. I don't it going off when I don't expect it because of some trigger job was botched.

I forgot to give a pic. Mine is a blued one (refinished?) with about 95% finish intact. The finish looks like the home blue job you might do on an old shotgun, pretty good but in know way to be confused with a nice blued finish. I don't think my S&W 19 is jealous of the blue job that the CZ-52 has.:D

A freind has one and he's loaded some .223 sabots for it. So far he has 50 grain .223's going out of that CZ-52 at just under 2100fps!

Do they feed? That sounds too cool! How about some AP .223?

Oh yeah, I forgot to say how far it spat out the empty brass, about 30'!:what: After shooting two mags through it I want to chech the brass and it took me a while to find it. It was about 30' to my right and 8-10 back and it didn't bounce there either. I wonder how far they would go if I shot it in a paved parking lot.

Steve Smith

Firestar, they feed perfectly.

I have heard, and probably many other possible buyers have heard that the 52 is not accurate. The CZ-52 is a very accurate handgun. I've hit steel plates at 100 yards with it, no problem. However, it has a couple of things going against it that would make it easy to shoot accurately. The ergonomics leave a lot to be desired, and the fairly stout recoil will do a fantastic job of helping you develop your flinch if you aren't careful.

But if you keep those two factors in mind, and practice, the CZ-52 is a very accurate pistol.

While this may seem "really fast" and neato

The old S&B and the Chinese fodder was fairly sedate.

The newer S&B and the Czech surplus is much hotter.

S&B is claiming about 1650fps for their currently cataloged 7.62x25 ammo.

http://www.sb-usa.com/pistol_ammo_page.htm

That sounds "really fast and neato to me..."

I have other guns to carry so the CZ52 is a fun gun I have been loading 110g JSP M1 Carbine bullets and they work fine bought 500 for my M1 Carbine and traded it off right after I got the bullets so I use them good stuff.
I don't carry it because of the OP issue.

Croyance,

Most of the ComBlock rounds (7.62x25, 39, and 54mm's) were actually .311. Yeah, they CALL it a 7.62, but...

Kinda like a .44 Magnum. (It's .429.)

So who makes non-corrosive ammo for a CZ-52??

Try S&B.

What are some of the good surplus ammo sources? I have recently aquired a CZ52 and I only have one box of New Generation ammo. This ammo sucks as the primers are too hard and it takes at least two strikes to get it to fire. I am looking to buy 1000 or more rounds but only if it is good stuff. Thanks. Also I am an experienced reloader but there is no data for using sabot rounds. What loads are you guys using? Thanks.

Don't forget to clean the firing pin channel, DrDremel. I have Yugo surplus ammo that I really like. It took double strikes to fire in my CZ-52, but gave no problems in my Norinco Tokarev.

A good cleaning solved the issue with the CZ.

Theres really NO gun like a CZ-52 especially for the money! I liked my first one so much i bought a spare.I use new commercial S&B ammo.

Heard lots of bad about the New Generation. No complaints from me though. It shoots fine in my 52 with no second strikes required.

I keep my guns VERY clean, so maybe there's something to what Dain Bramage says about the clean gun shooting it with no problem.
