A friend asked me about a colt frontier scout that was her fathers. has both the 22lr and 22mag cylinders, blued, fake stag grips, maybe a 4 1/2 in barrel, no box or papers.
pretty clean, small chip in blue on the loading gate, looks like it was barely if ever fired.
any thoughts? worth keeping? if she were to sell it, any ideas on it's value?

as long as you bear in mind that many of the descriptions are grossly inflated, and many of the asking prices are sucker prices.

The .22 Colt SAA variations haven't appreciated as much as their centerfire counterparts. I've got a couple of them. Maybe a $300-$400 gun I would guess.

The Peacemaker and New Frontier .22 revolvers from Colt are worth $300-600 in very good to excellent condition. Unfortunately, you said that this one is a "Frontier Scout." Unlike the Peacemaker (fixed sight) and New Frontier (adjustable sight) guns, which have steel frames and hard rubber grips, the Scouts have cast aluminum frames and plastic grips. They aren't "blued", they are painted. The Scouts sell for a lot less. Even in like new condition, standard Scouts typically go for no more than $250-300. The only ones I've seen command higher prices are certain commemoratives, and those are of limited collector interest (Colt made scores of ridiculous commemorative Scouts). New, unfired commemorative Scouts with all boxes, papers and accessories may reach $400-450 for certain variations. The highest I've ever seen a Scout sell for was a factory nickel plated pair in a dual presentation case, and that pair sold for just under $1,000.

I have seen a few come up for sale in MN in the price range Father said (around $200.00 - $250.00). If your friend decides to sell it, I may be interested. I'm in MN.

A poor gun when compared to the later produced New Frontier models. That alloy frame seemd to wear quickly and the cylinder would develop enough play to make them a poor shooter. I owned three of them and was so much more satisfied with the New Frontier and it's nicely case hardened steel frame.

I agree. I really like the New Frontier as a plinker and as a training gun for new shooters. It is well built and has excellent sights -- much better than those on my Peacemaker .22. In fact, if anyone out there has a New Frontier .22 they want to sell/trade, let me know. I'm looking for another....

I have the exact same gun, but mine only has the .22Lr cylinder.
I found out through my gunsmith that it's Blue Book value was only in the $150.00 ball park, so I turned it into a project gun. Stripped it down, re-blued the barrel, cylinder, trigger & hammer, and polished the aluminum frame. My Frontier Scout also belonged to my late father, so I won't sell it, but I only shoot it on rare occassion, not because of sentimental value, but because it doesn't shoot worth a damn.....
