Encore Pistol Shooting Style

I've been working on sighting in my new used Encore pistol in 30-06 (15 inch barrel topped with a Bushnell Trophy red-dot) and am a little surprised at my findings so far:

The gun, for all its beastly power, is not unpleasant to shoot. The size of the stock and the length of the barrel make 150 gr Remington SJSP's tolerable, if not downright fun, to shoot.

Here's my problem. The thing is HARD to keep a steady sight picture with. By comparison, shooting my .44 mag revolvers with red-dots, I get nowhere near the difficulty of staying on target. With the Encore I've been shooting off a monopod -- granted that this is not the steadiest of rests. Still, I find the front end weight tends to make for a lot of wobble and play, especially when shooting at 50+ yards.

Here's my question: Up until now I've used a relatively standard pistol-style grip, with both hands on the butt (my left slightly lower than usual to avoid being pounded by the trigger guard / break-open lever.) I was wondering, does anyone shoot their Encore or Contender by holding on to the forend stock with their left hand, as if you were shooting a rifle? I tried this at home (holding, not shooting) after returning from the range last time and seemed like I could suddenly hold the gun much more steadily.

Anyone ever shoot their Encore / Contender by holding it this way?

Thanks.
Joel

Ah, the taco grip. :D

I shoot my Contender like that. Works much better for me and is much kinder on the weak-hand knuckles as well.

Well, mystery solved in any case, right?

Another grip that works well is combo between the standard two handed grip and the "cup and saucer". Strong hand around the grip and the weak hand around the grip with the middle and index fingers cupping the trigger guard. This is good for those who prefer the traditional two handed grip and want to avoid the bloodshed associated with that trigger guard and heavy recoil.

And the fore-end is there to keep the pivot pin in place. :p
