What are some good pocket guns legal in California? By pocket gun, I mean something small enough to be carried in a front pants pocket.

One never knows about California, but I believe that some Smith & Wesson and Taurus snubbies are approved. For your purpose look for one of the models that has an inclosed hammer such as Smith & Wesson's '40 and'42 series or the Taurus C.I.A. Any knowledgeable dealer could answer your question.

S&W, Taurus J-frames
Kahr PM9
NAA Guardian
NAA mini revolver
Bersa Thunder
Walther PPK
Those are all approved.
I believe for S. California only Reseda cant have small pocket guns.

If it is not on the DOJ website than it is not for sale in CA.

The DOJ web site has a list of approved handguns.
"Roster of Handguns Certified For Sale"

You can always go private party. :D

To add to what Jesse308 posted, you can buy any firearm not listed as an "assault weapon" through private party. All transfers must go through an 01FFL except C&R long guns.

Just making the rounds today I saw a used M442 for $339 at one shop and a M38 for $339 at another. The M38 was much cleaner, but both would absolutely work for your request. There were new M642's for about $400, but I prefer my pistols without holes in the frame for locks.
The DOJ list is a major PITA, but it hasn't stopped me from getting the guns I want.
If I hadn't just sent a pistol off for a bunch of work, that M38 would be paid for and waiting for pickup.
When I used to live in San Diego, Steve over at SoCal Guns on Convoy used to have a decent used pistol selection.

I had to take a few moments to ponder over that one - you must be looking at Turner's ads where they always state "Not available in Reseda"! :D
Actually the city of L.A. has some oddball ban against smaller handguns, and Turner's Reseda store falls within the L.A. city limits. As everyone knows, this ban has really made L.A. a veritable utopia of safety. The bangers are at peace, robberies way down, no more freeway gunplay, walk anywhere you want after dark without fear, warms me 'ol heart it does.

PlayTheAces,
You are absolutely correct. I love checking the Turner ads and got my "information" from their ads.
Whether its true or not, I'm not sure. But It surely wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

In response to the inquiry of this thread, the state of California will be banning pockets. Be sure to turn all your pockets inside-out and sew them to the outside of the garment within 30 days of passage.

I try not to read those ads anymore - too hard on my budget. I admit to having done a bit of business with their Reseda store in the past though. After this post I just had to check their on-line ad for the week. They have used Walthers on sale. Hmmmmmm.

A ban on pockets would be outright impossible in this state. Take away our pockets and the political hacks wouldn't have anywhere to put their hands.

Its a shame Turners turned their ad to a bi-weekly sale (2 weeks).
It just ain't as fun to check anymore. :D

Odd, the past couple of days the DOJ site spits out 'the connection was refused' when you try to get the roster...
