Okay you Las Vegas folk, this has been touched on in the past but help me with some clarification.

Is the law that requires handguns to be registered with the local police county or city specific?

I'm looking at buying a place in Henderson, and I'm curious as to whether each city is different or whether uniform county laws apply.

This is a retirement destination, and that's most likely a half dozen years off, so moving the arsenal would be a gradual affair. Even though I've lived in Cali over fifty years, I've never had to trot my guns down to the police and register them.

On the other hand, eeevil hi-cap stuff may once again flow through my greedy fingers. :D

Any info greatly appreciated.

Whoa, you have to *register* handguns in Las Vegas? Nevada? That's messed up if it's true!

Registration of firearms is Clark County specific. I don't remember if long guns need to be registered, but I don't think so. My #3 son lived there a few years ago and my #1 son lives there now. I'll check. Incidently, I was born in Vegas and raised in Boulder City. I'd like to go back but can't afford the cost of living down there.

Yes, you need to register handguns in Clark County.
It has been that way ever since I moved here in the early 80s.
When you buy a handgun, you fill out an additonal form (in addition to the 4473, yellow form). The gun shop then makes out a "blue card" which you are supposed to carry with you whenever you have the handgun.
I have a stack of blue cards an inch high.
This applies to any handgun you purchase in Clark County. I lived in Nye county for five years or so, but, If I bought a handgun in Clark County I still had to fill out the form and get a blue card.
If you have handguns prior to moving here, buy handguns in another county, or buy a handgun through a private party sale you are supposed to register them with the policia. Obviously the only way to enforce this is if you somehow come under police scrutiny and the discover your unregistered handgun.
Obviously, I am against handgun registration. But, other than filling out one more form, I don't see any big deal about it. I have never had anyone ask to see my blue card. Actually, I don't ever carry the blue card. I am not even sure of the point of the whole thing. Common wisdom tells us that registration is the first step towards confiscation, yet I have been registering handguns in Clark County since '83. And, the same police department that requires this registration has no problem at all signing paperwork for NFA weapons: you don't even have to talk to anyone. You just drop it off and they will either call you when it is signed or mail it to you.

Well I guess you learn something new every day...

Thanks for the info, 444. Appreciate it.

That's more or less what I thought, but wanted some verification. I don't particulary like the idea, but it's not a hugh issue either. I just have a hard time envisioning rolling my shopping cart into the local station house - not sure if they'd laugh or hit the floor. :D

I'll play it by ear - got plenty of time left before I need to deal with it.

I think I might register my carry gun(s), but that would be it.
Actually, my carry gun is registered (because I bought it new, in Clark County about 10 years ago) but is not listed on my CCW :uhoh:
Yes, you have to have your carry guns listed on your CCW: in other words, you qualified with those guns. I switched carry guns way back when and never actually did the qualifications with them.
Oh well, that is just something I am going to have to learn to live with, I guess.

The police stations have a (sort of) three gun limit per visit when registering guns. That's actually a good thing, because those three guns can take you up to half an hour to register. It shouldn't take that long, but it does.

12.04.110 Registration of pistols within twenty-four hours.

Any person receiving title to a pistol, whether by purchase, gift, or any other transfer, and whether from a dealer or from any other person, shall, within twenty-four hours of such receipt, personally appear at the county sheriff's office, together with the pistol, for the purpose of registering the same with the sheriff. It shall be the duty of the sheriff to register the pistol, and he may, and is hereby authorized to cooperate in any manner he sees fit with other law enforcement agencies, and with licensed dealers, relative to registration of pistols, so that efficient registration shall be secured at minimum cost and duplication. (Ord. 242 § 11, 1965)

So says the law for 40 years now.

Oh well, that is just something I am going to have to learn to live with, I guess. And pay the price for if you get caught.

Thumbing your nose at a law on a public forum is not the wisest of choices.
But then, good choices are not everyone's forte.

I just moved to Henderson and you do need to register each gun. I went to the Henderson sub-station on Green valley at 7:00AM on Sunday and 3 guns took about 15 minutes and no cost. If you ever plan getting a Nevada CCW permit you will need to have a registration card for each gun on your permit. I don't like the registration idea but in Clark County you have no choice.
