Any city or town that has a University or College with a foreign exchange program, and/or large enough numbers of middle eastern students to form muslim student organizatinons.

L.E. intel in my area has singled out Laramie, WY, home of Univ. of WY., and Fort Collins CO., home of CO. State Univ., in particular because of their large numbers of middle eastern students, and muslim organizations.

Univ. Of CO. at Boulder is high risk also.

Yup, and just last week some twit threatened to fire off a nuke on the Purdue University campus. I tell ya, we were all quaking in our boots...

The line between preperation and paranoia is all too easy to cross.

Chris,

You're right. It is sometimes a very fine line. Even for Law enforcement. (Or perhaps ESPECIALLY for LE)

Yup.

One thing that I've always wondered; what exactly is a 'High' risk for terrorism? Does that mean that a resident of such an area has a 1 in 100 chance of becoming victim to a terrorist attack? 1 in 1000? 1 in 50? At least to me, all of those numbers seem absurdly high.

Robert Heinlein asked, "...what are the facts, and to how many decimal places?" I have the same question. I'd like to see some figures on the likelyhood of terrorist attacks in the US. I bet the actual numbers are pretty small.

I'm not saying that everyone should go around with a paper bag over their head, just trying to keep a little perspective.

I'm not saying that everyone should go around with a paper bag over their head,

Some of the people who run around bleating about this stuff (not you guys here, more the media and govt types) would do better for the rest of us if they used a plastic one.

Gives an entirely new meaning to "Paper or plastic?"

Remember that a terrorist attack doesn't have to be massive to be highly effective in altering a way of life... Look at what happened with the sniper in the DC area - After two weeks of small scale attacks, they had people running and ducking, folks keeping their kids out of school, etc - essentially shut the area down.

I think that even in a "high risk" area, the probabilities of any particular individual getting hurt are one in many millions.

To me, at least, "high risk" means that there is about a 50-50 chance that there will be some kind of attack, or attempted attack in the overall area.

In my case, as described at the beginning of this thread, that would mean the eastern half of Colorado and Wyoming. That's a pretty big area.

In light of this, I'm cetainly not going to drag out my body armor and start wearing it again, but I am going to try to keep my eyes open and my head out of my armpit at the mall.

The greatest enemy of the terrorist is the person who, while cautious, refuses to be afraid.

For those of us who live in areas other than the Northeast corridor or the Extreme west coast, the chances of a terrorist incident are probably fairly small. That is not to say that one could not occur. And if it did and you were a victim of the incident then it could be assumed that the chances were 100 percent.

I for one am not going to run around in a paranoid state looking for a Bogeyman behind every sand dune. If a suicidal looney tune wearing a tablecloth on his head and a robe full ofexplosives decides to meet Allah and I am in his field of devastation, there just is not a heck of a lot I can do about it. Oh sure, if I see him about to commit the act, I can take extreme measures to neutralize his ability with maybe a 50/50 chance of success.

By and large, all that can be done is to get on with the business of living life, and "BUYING MORE GUNS"
