Who first started calling 1911's "GOOD LOOKING?"
Someone with taste... and long before Herr Glock even though about designing a gun. :p

Like all things, it is relative. A 1911 is good looking when compared to a Glock but it is an ugly sister compared to a Beretta 92.
Flame away. I said it, I meant it. The 1911 is nothing special in looks dept., I will agree that the Mil Spec are the most classly and best looking of the bunch though. I have seen some gaudy, 1911s, kind of makes you sick, like when some joker paints his house pink or purple, you know what I mean. How about the Kimbers with the double stack plastic grip frame?:barf:

I didn't do it!
But I wish I had:)
I deffinitly think the 1911 is the finest looking auto loader out there. I like 'em blue, I like 'em stainless, heck I even like them two toned. I like them with nice wood grips or Ivory. I like them with dot sight, Novaks or Bomars.

who WOULDN'T say the 1911 is good looking??
Heck, I'd say the 1911 is one of the most beautiful hanguns ever manufactured!

I too think that a nice 1911 is very classy looking -- especially in a deep blue finish (not parkerized... :barf: ). Stainless and two-tone are also nice.
The ugliest guns are Glocks, the XDs, and HiPoints. :neener:
Older HKs are also beautiful guns. I especialy like the P9S and the P7s.
The SIG P210 is a beaut, too.

Yes, the 1911 has a simple classy elegance to it. Some other guns share this elegance as well, like the hipower, some older HKs like the P7 and P9S, and the CZ75. Berettas have a lot of character too but in a more artsy way.
On the other hand most glocks, rugers, and hipoints just hurt to look at. They are not classy or elegant in any way, shape, or form. I can appreciate them as tools, but not as asthetic works of art like the 1911 or some of the SA revolvers out there.

Now I'm not saying there aren't good looking 1911's. But compared to Lugers, Brownings, Mausers, Walthers, Sig 210, Hammerlis.....
Like a 1920's COMMERCIAL 1911 in 98%.....mmm---mm
But that's still comparing the 1911 to the 1911.
They ARE prettier than Glocks.
But so is mud.

Well if you ever handled a mint, like new, pre-war Colt National Match Grade .45 or .38 Super automatic you might (just might) change your mind. The fit and cosmetics are well .... very good looking.

I think it's safe to say that guns are like women. Everyone has their own taste. Big, small, thick, thin, what have you. Personally, I do find 1911s very sexy. However, I also have a pretty passionate relationship w/ my Glock 23 :D So you may want to take my opinion w/ a grain of salt. Peace

The original colt government is good looking.
The new clones with the waaay extended beavertail, extended safety, and grossly cut serrations are gawdy.
Kimbers make me want to heave. They look like a christmas tree that's been over-decorated.
They might feel better to some, but they look bad to me.

William Faulkner, I think in 'Light In August', called it ugly. That was what, 1930s?

Other than a 6" Colt Python, I think the basic 1911 is the sexiest, best looking handgun manufactured. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

"Good looking" is never limited to the eye alone -- not with people, not with things, and not with machines.
As appreciation of reliability, capability, and confidence in whatever is gazed upon grows, "beauty" is attributed to it.

Colt 1911/1911A1--simple, elegant...beautiful.
Hard to say whether it looks nicer than a BHP, but everything else, (except maybe a SAA) is UGLY in comparison.

These are both owned by the user maco on 1911forum.com Top two are a 1924 Transition period piece 1911/1911A1 and the two on the bottom is probably one of the best refinishing jobs ever! I have an unholy attraction for that 1924., let me tell ya. :uhoh:

I never said good looking. Gorgeous though. Simply the most beautiful handgun ever designed. Especially a decked out one like a Kimber Eclipse. Nothing tops it, not even the Beretta.
