Do You See Yourself With More Than a Dozen Guns?

Not including .22s, I can't really see myself having more than a dozen guns. Over the last six months I've been thinning down my armory to just what I plan to train with.

Only exception being the .45 Colt Beretta Stampede for the reehaw factor.

I certainly know I have no NEED to thin out my armory, but don't have a desire for a diverse collection and actually enjoy it more this way. Your thoughts?

I could live with a dozen or fewer, but I like to have lots of spares. I'm not much for collecting.

I can't remember a time when there were LESS than a dozen guns in the house I lived in! My father always had at least 40-50, and I've followed in his footsteps. Now my son is following in mine.

That's like being forced to live with only chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry for the rest of your life (all fine flavours, but sometimes you've gotta try something else); I'm running around 30 now, and always on the lookout for more:)

Ummm...allready way over a dozen, but I think I understand the intent there.

I train with a 1911. So I can say that my Para Ordnance, Springfield, Kimber and Colt are 1 gun.

I train with a Rem. 870 12 ga. SO all my other 12ga shotguns are 1 gun.

I train with a AR-15.... Ok my other fifles are drastically different from the AR but you get the point.;)

Well, I'm only at five right now. If left on my own, I'd hit the 30 mark in under a year easy.

Unfortunately, my soon-to-be-spouse has asked that I never own lots of guns. Twenty seems to be the upper limit but I think she would be happier with one or two.

I could thin down to a dozen and be happy. I could be content with a dozen hanguns and half a dozen long guns for the rest of my life.

Absolute minimum arsenal for me.
1 pump shotgun (12 ga)
2 rifles (1 .22lr and one other cal. .223 or 7.62x39)
1 revolver (.357 or .38 for target work)
4 semi auto pistols (1 .22lr, 1 home defense pistol, 1 small carry pistol and 1 target pistol.)

That is 8 guns. I could be fine with that.

Skunkabilly
March 17, 2003, 02:45 PM
Every time I shoot a revolver, Sig, Glock, USP or even the almighty 1911, I only remind myself how fortunate I am to be armed with my Langdonized Beretta and P7.

I like the USP Compact, but my P7 fills its niche, I shoot it better, so it's kinda pointless for me to get one. I'm in love with the USP9C tho, but have no use for one.

Now if they had carbon fiber doodads for these Sigs Glocks and USP that might be a different story...

I cant imagine only having 12 gun's . I figure Id slow down around 300 or so , take an inventory and see if their was anything Id missed . Heck there are a dozen configurations of AR-15's Id like to have . Just 12 in each caliber wouldn't be to bad . :D

"Hi...my name is QuarterBore...and I have a problem."

*in unison* "Hi QuarterBore!"

"I...uhm...this is difficult for me...I can't stop collecting Smith & Wesson revolvers... it started with a minty '50s vintage pre-Model 10... then it was J-frames. My friends all told me to get some help, or at least branch out to Colts or Rugers. But it was no use...I was hooked. Model 27s? Three of them... Model 29s *sniff* I HAD to have one of those didn't I? I remember once driving two hours to look at NIB Model 53 in .22/.22 Jet. Then it was an endless parade of .357s...all colors, frames and barrel lengths.

I know now that I need help. Help to find a nice Model 57 in .41 Magnum...with the 8 3/8 inch barrel."

I can stop anytime I want to. Really.

I started out at fourteen-- Got a WIN 12ga Mdl#25 -- a 4-10 Mossberg and Win 22 Bolt and A JP Saur SAA. Then I got a Python-- 1972--$151.00 retail--

Kept going from there --
Then After about fifteen years in LE --Mostly doing patrol and firearms training I got sick of 'em--
Reminded me of work--
So to my way of thinking I got out of guns--
Still had a Duty gun--My python-- a PPC Bull barrell--Win Mdl #25--A 22--an 870 -- an AMT BU--NAA mini pocket gun--
So when I though I was completely OUT of the firearms hobby I still had 8 guns-- Those were just work and house guns --required tools --

Then I got back into it as my youngest son developed an interest--
I hit just over 200 then--mostly S&W--

Then I got divorced -- got shot -- became a CPA --
Down to about 50 now--
Probably won't go much lower -- unless I have to get rid of "assault" weapons-- I now live in Illinois----

WOW I'm jealouse!

I could easily see more than that, a lot more, but first I need the winning lottery ticket

Currently:

1 MAKAROV CCW
1 Winchester 12 gauge pump
1 SAR 1

1 Savage .308 (coming very soon)

Just the basics. How do all of you afford such extensive collections?
Still want a pocket pistol, 357 revolver, lever probably 357, Mosin nagant, FAL, M1 and a whole host of others.

QuarterBoreGunner

Jedi_7.62- afford them? How could I afford to NOT have them?

Seriously though, I was general manager for a pretty good sized (for California) gun store and worked my discount on a regular basis. Bought all my pre-ban stuff right out of high school in the mid '80s when they weren’t NEARLY expensive as they later became ("Wow! $800 for a German rifle I've never heard of before? What the heck is a H&K 91 anyway? I think I'll just buy another Colt AR...).
Missed out on an AUG though...oh well.

And then I started collecting vintage S&W revolvers (from the early Numbered Models in the ‘50s to when they stopped making square butts in 1992)- and you could get a NIB (technically used) S&W any caliber for pretty reasonable prices.

Unfortunately California, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that any handgun manufactured before they started that damn silly testing procedure about four years ago, is inherently unsafe for the shooter. Morons. So my collecting has been severely curtailed

I hope to never have less than 12. Every once in a while some "gotta have" gun comes along and I look through the collection to see if anything can be sold to help fund the new gun. I've sold a few in the past and regretted most of those sales. Now I'm at the point where I can't sell any of them. I've been trying to get down below a dozen guns for over 20 years.

I think it's hopeless...

A big bore revolver, a serious long-range rifle, a pocket/mousegun...

ROFL
I carry three on me at work and a shotgun in the car.
The real question is can I carry a dozen on me at one time. ;)

Actually I have just under 20 firearms. :D

Mr. Skunk,

You blew it, bud! You may overload the server on this thread. You could have kept it much much shorter by asking, "do you see yourself with LESS than a dozen weapons. Then only those 3 or 4 people could have responded. But noooooooo. Now all of us have to say, "Yes, I have less than a dozen dozen...":D

I passed a dozen long ago. None are "super-dooper-special'...but I like most of them. Most have come to me as gifts or payment...( not bad...will work for guns)... There are only a few I'd be willing to part with. :D

In the past I have but my goal lately is fewer but better guns. The guns around here have to earn their keep and there must be a reason to keep them.

Currently the total is 6 shotguns, 2 rifles and 4 handguns. That's two shotguns and two handguns more than I actually need and eventually they and others will hit the market with an intent to upgrade. After years of owning and trading I've come to appreciate higher quality guns and am more discriminating in my tastes. Owning 50 medium quality guns doesn't do as much for me as owning half a dozen of the very best I can afford.

Somebody tell me how I thin down to a dozen.

Sentimental guns (can't get rid of)

Great Granddads DOuble barrel Belgium 12 ga.
Granddads Win pump .410
Granddads Belgium Browning Humpback
Other Grandads Remington SPortsman 48
Other Granddads Citoti
Other Granddads Model 99 .300 Savage

Dads Win 94 30-30
Dads High Standard 9 shot .22 revo
Dads Savage .22 pump.
Uncles Marlin .22 Lever
Ruger SIngle Six .22/22wmr (first gun I purchased myself)
Browning Citori 20ga (1st SHotgun I bought myself)
Win 94 .45Colt (first lever gun I bought myself)
Ruger .243 (First Bolt gun I bought myself)
(2) Para P14.45 Limited (2nd 1911/SA I bought myself, traded the first. sniff.) (Second one was to cheap to pass up, plus you have to have a backup for your primary)

Other Guns:

Ar 15 (Evil Tactical Rifle)
Kimber 84M .22-250 (Long Range Varmint gun)
Savage .223 (Medium Range Varmint gun)
Kimber 84m .308 (Mountain hunting rifle)
Savage 110 .300 Winmag (Big Honking Brass thrower)
Remington Sendero .270 (White tail/MuleDeer Killer)
Ruger 10/22 (Rabbit/Armadillo gun)
American Arms Gentry SXS 12ga (gotta have a double)
Remington 870 (Home defense weapon)
NEF 45-70 (Dedicated truck gun)
Marlin Cowboy 45-70 (just cause)
Pedersoli Sharps replica .45-70 (Saw Quigley, didn't ya?)
Marlin .17v (common you gotta have a .17 Hornady)
Kimber Ultra Carry CDP (CCW)
Colt Gov't .380 (Deep CCW)
Springfield Champion (can't have too many 1911's, didn't have a commander sized gun anyway)
Ruger Stainless Mark II (needed a .22 auto loader)
(2) Uberti SAA Colt Clones (gotta play cowboy sometimes)
Uberti Outlaw .45Colt (coolest 6 gun I ever saw)

Now I see no redundancy in here anywhere. Just how am I supposed to thin this down to 12? On the contrary; I see several holes that need plugging.

I heard on the radio that the average number of guns per gun-owning household here in Alaska is 12.

There's a method to my madness. Just a few more "holes to plug" and then I'll be done. Really. Trust me. :D
