I need a range bag but don't have a lot of cash to spend. Any ideas? I've seen a few on Ebay but I'm a little dubious of the quality. Just looking to carry a couple pistols, ammo, muffs.
Thanks

Right now I just use an old book bag. Cheap and sturdy enough to hold a couple hundred rounds of ammo and plugs, glasses, etc.

You could try here: http://www.gunnersalley.com/. Not cheap, but it's free to look.

I paid $20 for mine at Wally World. It's a Bob Allen brand green cordura bag that holds two fullsize handguns,a couple three boxes of ammo, muffs, glasses,& some assorted crap just fine.Mine even came w/two padded sleeves to protect the guns.

Wal-mart has some really cheap Rubbermaid bags in their hardware section ... I would give them a look. There was actually a thread dedicated to these bags either here or TFL a while back.

I got a couple of plastic tool boxes at Lowes. I think they are Israeli made. They have some small compartments set into the top for frequently used items. I got one for my rifles and one for my pistols. There is a pull out tray in the top and plenty of room below. I got some Plano fishing tackle trays with snap shut tops at Wal Mart. You can customize the insides with removable dividers. I use one for 9mm-.38/.357 and the other for 10mm-.45ACP. All my spare parts, jags, etc for the pistols go in them. Unless I centralize things, I'm scouring the house and garage for something or getting to the range only to discover I left something behind.
The tool boxes are large enough to take a couple of pistols, ammo, the Planos and tools for simple tinkering. Plus they don't holler "guns!" when discretion is appropriate.

A small used suitcase in not-too-good condition is something else that doesn't scream "gun" or "valuables" - and if you find one from the pre-wheels era they're dirt cheap.

I use a tool bag I got a Wally World. Has lots of pockets (inside and out) where I can put gloves, speedloaders, ear plugs, gloves, and still have room for ear muffs, ammo, and a couple of pistols.

I second the Walmart bag. I have one that cost like $29.99. It has a padded pistol sleeve inside, enough room for two pairs of muffs and about 15 boxes of ammo, a mesh pocket that opens wide to fit about 2 boxes of emptys at the skeet range, and miscellaneous pocket on the sides. After I bought it I looked in Midway at the prices for what they had and couldn't believe how rediculous they are. They have one brand name bag that is exactly like mine for about $70. I'm not talking about a similar bag. This is the same bag with a different tag on it.

Crazy

Rubbermaid carrier for cleaning stuff. A bunch of guys I shoot with have gotten buckets and their trimmings to carry stuff at the local hardware store.

Try Lowe's or Home Depot. Tool bags are great because they have a lot of pockets for wrenches and such that are sized perfectly for mags. I bought a dandy from Big Lots for about $15 that has held up real well.

Mine was a freebie from a telephone contractor who thought I had more influence than I really did. :D

check out the Law Enforcement Equipment Bag about 1/2 way down the page:

http://www.tickbitesupply.com/tac.html

it's $50 and worth every penny. it's much better built than wal-mart bags -- think material that stands up on its owe. it's not a make shift gym bag either. it really is a range bag w/ gun pockets, mag holders, and removeable stage bag. but, it is not as expensive as i-shot or any of the other high end, shooter dedicated bags. really, it is the perfect budget range bag. the only downside is that it is not made in the US.

i've tried almost every bag out there. including home depot tool bags and everything in btwn. this is the best value out there.

I used to use an old USGI mechanics bag,

but when my wife blessed me with a Craftsman drill set for X-mas, the bag proved perfect for a range bag.

That thing is strong and has enough pockets to provide good service, and since I already had a hard case for my old broken drill, everything worked out!

I have two..one is a LE gear bag from Gall's that was a gift form my wife a while back. I only use it when I am taking everything with me and want to put it all into one bag.

The one I use the most is a tool bag (notice a trend here?) that was part of a household tool kit a friend gave us when we bought our house. It has pockets on the outside that are the perfect size to hold magazines, bug spray, small notebook, etc. and the interior will hold a full-size pistol, muffs, 2-300 round of ammo, holster, mag pouch and a small bottle of water. Everything I need for an IDPA match.
