I got my Colorado driver's license, that was pretty easy. Then I bought a vehicle with 4 wheel drive and got Colorado plates, that was painful. $442.00. That's just for the plates, not the vehicle. But I got the final piece of the puzzle today, my CHP. $150 and about a 1 month wait. All and all, not too bad an experience. And just in time, my MI license was about to expire.

Now all I have to do is learn Espanol!

Life is good in Colorado.

BTW..I got my CHP in Garfield Co at the Sheriff's office in Glenwood's Springs. Friendly folks and no waiting and no negative attitudes. Everyone was very helpful. My picture looks like hell, but unfortunately it's an accurate representation.

As a Graphic Designer I find the Colorado Drivers License to be so ugly as to be almost offensive :neener:

But I wouldn't trade it for my old Kansas one for a million dollars :D

I hate you! I want to move over to the western slope so bad it hurts. I sold my land in Meeker like in 1997 and have hated my self ever since. Going to retire in like 4 years and will start looking over that way about then.
Rifle is one of the places I really want to look at. Hey they have a Walmart now. LOL

$442 for plates, wow. I hope they give you a break somewhere else. My vehicle registration here in Ohio was approx 10% of that.

From what I hear, the property taxes are low here, so I get a break when I buy a house. Just my luck, I leave Michigan where I had a house with high property taxes and a company truck (plates were about $50) and came out here and can't afford a house and had to buy a car. I'll get it right some day.

So far, it's been worth it though. This is beautiful country. It's 80 degrees here and I can look out my window and see snow on several of the peaks around here. And I did get snowed on a couple of weeks ago. So I can imagine getting a sunburn while shoveling snow in July.

And people don't believe me when I say I went fishing May 1st, T-shirt weather, knee deep in snow. South Hardscrabble Creek, you can step across it, but you can catch your limit of brookies and rainbows quickly. Aaah, fresh trout in the spring.

Regarding plates. They are expensive when your vehicle is new, but drop later on. When I bought my truck new in 1993, the plates were around $450. Same truck now, about $70 a year.

I grew up in Lakewood, went to college in Gunnison, then joined the Navy and lived in San Diego, Pensacola and Corpus Christi, got out and moved back to CO. Didn't really realize how much I missed it all until I got back.

BTW, since you're in rifle check out Rifle Sportsmen's Club (www.riflesportsmensclub.org) if you haven't already. $30/year for a pretty good range, lots of shooting events and from what I've seen, everybody's firendly and for $30/yr you just can't beat it.
