Anybody out there a fan of this series? http://www.gunslingergirl.tv/
The show has some pretty authentic weapons and handling tactics. I just got my DVD promotional packet in the mail today.

Very cool. I've never seen anime before, but this may get me into it. I like Triela, already her dossier says that she prefers to use a Winchester M1897 trench gun.

I don't know what's more disturbing - little girls gunning down people or the fact that they all have excellent trigger discipline. :)

It looks interesting, kinda of a "La Femme Nikita" theme taken to the extreme.
For those new to anime, do not miss Ghost in the Shell the movie, and the TV series GitS: Stand Alone Complex. For fans of the cyberpunk genre of science fiction (such as William Gibson and Bruce Sterling's early work), the plot lines are very interesting.

This looks like chibi Femmes Nikita, but I'm tired of super-amazing 8-y-o Mary Sues. Mind you, if Shirow or ABe did it, I'd be all over it. BTW, the manga for GiTS 2 (Man-Machine Interface) will make your head explode. Matrix, schmatrix!

Still, GSC has characters who are more my age. :D

Huh, just so happens I bought the DVD yesterday at Best Buy. Haven't watched all of it yet as I'm watching the Samurai Jack season 1 and 2 DVDs I got with it. The first 25 minutes looked interesting. The gun are drawn accurately as with Riding Bean/Gunsmith Cats.
As for story line, GC would be more believable. From what I gather from the description and first few minutes I saw, young, terminally destined (illness or accident) girls are cybernetically enhanced and used as the weapons platforms for secret government work (for the good). They work in two man teams, a human adult and the young girl. You can interpret whatever psychological undertones of that type of relation as I'm sure some folks will think it immoral. But it's got guns (and accurately depicted in their action and use) which is good enough for me.

The new/remake of Appleseed is very cool.
Most definitely. The first scenes blew me away. If scaled correctly, I'm guessing those Gatling guns were at least 40mm and those sideways directed muzzle brakes were a nice touch. And those multi-barrels on those mobile fortresses, even bigger still. Also like the way they left the characters in their anime appearance (as opposed to trying to be realistic).

I love anime.
Gunslinger Girls is very good. I am actually planning on picking up the mangas this week. The Adult handler, and under 10 girls is a bid odd, but...it's Japan, they have different ideas on adult/childeren interaction. Also, I saw the series in fansubs about a year and a half ago, so I got them uncut and straight from Japan, so I'm interested to see how they are edited and made PC correct for us poor sheltered Americans. I hope they don't trash it too bad.
Gits:SAC. Oh yes. Get It. Along with the movies and mangas. The new manga is very good, but yeah...I read the whole thing, put it down, and then my head exploded.
New Appleseed....Oh yes again. Made me dig out the old mangas for it too.
Gunsmith Cats...the best in my opinion. I liked the OAV so much, I tracked down some original japanese language mangas and even started trying to translate the kanji!! Fortunately for me, Dark Horse picked up the series and translated it for me.
I like anime and mangas, especially the Chicks with Guns types, can ya tell?

Kamicosmos, have you seen Rose Hip Rose? I've only seen it for sale in manga, four volumes in Japanese only. Somewhere online I ran into an English translation which I downloaded and formatted (in MS Publisher) just so I could print it out to read.

Uh, if you're intersted in that (excessive undergarment depiction), check out Najica.
As for Gunslinger, after seeing the first disc in its entirety I was a little disappointed. Not really much gun action, or at least as much as I'd like to see. It is, however, the first disc and is focused on character development. We'll have to see how the rest goes, but it doesn't look like it'll be on my favorites stack. There were some odd moments, like at the firing range and one of the girls was firing a G3. The gun was not drawn as detailed as it should have been, IMO. The casings flying out looked like straight wall too. No hearing protection for the cyborg girls either, indoor range or out.

The Adult handler, and under 10 girls is a bid odd, but... it's Japan, they have different ideas on adult/childeren interaction.
FWIW, the show itself is set in Italy. And the whole point of the series is to explore the adult/child interaction, in fact. (In an entirely nonsexual way.)
Having watched the whole (13 episode) series, I can say it was good, and was pretty sad. Nothing amazing, though.

Take a look at Mezzo and its OAV prequel Mezzo Forte
Also, a new series from the Noir folks on much the same theme but less mystical - more techno oriented: Madlax
My only regret re: Appleseed is that it's probably the last Shirow anime we'll see for a while. I doubt GITS: Man-Machine Interface will (or could!) be animated effectively. Getting the viewers heads to explode properly  :what: would be messy.

Whoah the introductory song for this series just suits the Anime perfectly...
The Light Before We Land by The Delgados
The song is sung slowly and features a "dreamy" sound... Violins in the background, flutes, a chorus in chant in the back and a soothing female vocalist and her male backup. All this chaos going on with a guitar, base, and drums... and they pulled it off perfectly.
The song really fits the innocence of the young girls and the dark tone of the violin gives reminds us that they are not just children, but killers. It's flat out the best intro music I have ever heard for any series and matches up to the intro movie absolutely perfectly. It also led me to this band whos style is right up my alley.
In cases such as these I'd like a hand
Don't wake me up without a master plan
With black & white instead of colour
Don't you understand?
When things that once were beautiful
Are bland
And when I feel like I can feel once again
Let me stay awhile
Soak it in awhile
If we can hold on we can fix what is wrong
Buy a little time
For this head of me
Haven for us
In truth there is no better place to be
Than falling out of darkness still to see
Without a premonition
Could you tell me where we stand?
I'd hate to lose this light
Before we land
And when I feel like I can feel once again
Let me stay awhile
Soak it in awhile
If we can hold on we can fix what is wrong
Buy a little time
For this head of mine
Haven for us
Before we let euphoria
Convince us we are free
Remind us how we used to feel
Before when life was real
And when I feel like I can feel once again
Let me stay awhile
Soak it in awhile
If we can hold on we can fix what is wrong
Buy a little time
For this head of mine
Haven for us
The actual series is a little slower than most anime but when the actions starts it manages to pull out the big guns and delivers some great gunplay. Its not heat, but very entertaining. The scene where Henrieta is at a restruant with her handler was great. As the waiter removes a knife from the table and henrietta sees the action in slow motion indicating it has her total attention... as the innocent waiter raises it closer and closer to her handlers face she moves in, disarms and pins him to the table with an arm bar and raises the knife to his neck. The handler tells her to stand down and gives the waiter 500 euros and asks him to forget what he saw.
ok im done now. :)

Totally agree. I saw commercials on Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim" about 13-14 months ago for GItS:SAC and Full Metal Alchemist, and TiVO'ed both series for the next 6 months. Couldn't wait for the last few episodes to air live though, and grabbed the season of fansubs for both series off Bittorrent. I've got GItS:SAC Vol. 1 on DVD, and will eventually have them all. :D It's an amazing series. Not only that, but season 2, GItS:2nd GIG, is even better. I have eps. 1-14, and have watched through 11 so far.
The new/remake of Appleseed is very cool.
Thank you! I just got it last night, buy haven't taken the shrink wrap off as I'm afraid it wouldn't be good. :( I only got it because the manga was by Shirow Masamune, same guy as GItS.

I just finished watching a couple more episodes of Gunslinger Girls and I must say that its a sad series. Seeing the girls live their lives under their handlers is just as dramatic as the action. Several of the handlers are borderline abusive, some are mentally abusive, some detach themselves from the girls and some like Josie act like a true fratello / brother sister group. Meanwhile some of the girls attach themselves to their big brothers... it was quite a sad scene when the series introduces Elsa. She is so cold to the other girls and breathes every breath for her handler... meanwhile her handler sees her as nothing more than a tool. He sees no humanity in any of the girls.
Great series.

That spring on the left side looks kinda funky. Is it 2 springs, or does it change helix size?
And what's it for? Never had a Sig 239 apart.

based on it's proximity to the other parts, I'd hazard that it's a mag spring. Might explain the differing coil sizes too.

Ah, so take near dead girls, hack them up a bit, slap some augmented biotech in them to make them less human, and probably mix in some massive psychological programming for good measure. Children do not usually take to systematically killing others on their own. It's a learned behavior.
Harvesting children for expendable assets. Sure, what's wrong with that?
Edit : Oh yea, and 'secret' government sponsored assassinations are only used for 'good'. Good for the government is always 'good' for the people. Yep.

Which also explains why you haven't heard anyone mention liking shows like Inuyasha. :neener: It's either samauri (which is cool), pistol packin' babes (which is hot :D), or really sweet weapon systems, like Tachikomas (which are cool, if annoyingly voiced)
BTW, just finished Appleseed, very cool movie.

Alright, while this thread has been dead for some time. I must see if I can breathe life into it without the use of a defibulator. Those are all good animes, the majority atleast that I have heard of.
Cowboy Bebop, Najica, Madlax, Gunsmith Cats, all sorts. Love the guns, swords, tactics, realism with the ability to still stick to the anime style drawing of course.
Can't believe I found a thread on here about anime... May I worship this site or would that go against the commandments?... Wait, what do I care
