SXS "Coach Gun" With Slugs?

I've seen several sxs 12 ga. "Coach Guns" around and I'm wondering what experience people have using these with slugs. Specifically, I'd be loading with magnum Brennekes. I'm sure recoil would be intense, but what about POA and accuracy issues?

SXS's loaded with slugs rarely shoot both barrels to the same POI, since they are not regulated as are double rifles. Only way to know is to try one and see what happens with it, maybe you'll get lucky. Accuracy may also be an issue, again no way to tell without trying. Even if they are on the same POI at one range, that will most likely change as the range changes since the barrels are almost certainly 'toed in' a bit due to their greater diameter at the breech.

You could relegate one barrel to buckshot if its POI is too far off to be useful. Unless you're heading for bear country, then stick with slugs and save the 'off' barrel for closer shots, if you have two triggers or can select barrels.

Don't necessarily limit yourself to just one brand/load of slugs either- try various ones and see what the gun likes. I'm partial to Brennekes too but I will feed a gun what it shoots best if I can manage to sort that out.

Good luck with it,

What he said!!! Go out on the range & pattern with slugs! Then you'll know. My Stoeger right barrel is dead on, but my left barrel is about 6-8 inches out.

Hmmm. Well I may just stick to getting a new Mossy 500 to replace my old Mossy (and rusty) 500

I have 3 SXS that I like: A 20" barrel Coach Gun (Stoeger) with a straight grip, the right barrek Cyl, the left ImpCyl, a Stevens 311 "Guard Gun" 18" Cyl barrels, and a Browning SS with 18.25" barrels also Cyl, the Browning also has an extra pistol grip made from a broken stock. The Coach Gun shoots real close to POA at 35 yards with the right barrel, and off the bottle target at the same range with the left barrel, but with most Buck (#1, 4, 00) it patterns well at 25 yards with both-go figure.
The Stevens will put both slugs on the bottle at 20 yards, and not much after that. The Browning will put slugs from both on target at 40 yards but with no predictability as to where, about an 10" group. I use standard length slugs, finding absolutely no advantage in the 3" mags, just more recoil.
Moral of the story: Ok for real up close and personal, but probably better to use Buckshot in doubles, with the Browning(it has ejectors) one can keep up with any other shotgun in continous rate of fire, and with polished chambers in the others (with extractors) very close to it. Just watch some Cowboy Action Matches.
BTW, with the pistol grip looks mean on the Browning, but it is essentially useless beyond 10 feet, and it hurts!
I do love the double look however.
