870 magazine problem

My wife has a 20 Gauge Express; feeding shells into the magazine has become increasingly difficult and sometimes impossible.

As you push the round past the shell catch, it goes into the mag tube but doesn't come back against the shell catch. If for some reason the round does load as intended, there is no way another round will go in more than 1/2".

Mag spring and follower have been removed, and the magazine thoroughly cleaned. I've tried different followers...same result. I can get a shell stuck in the mag tube (case head flush with the rear edge of the mag tube) with no follower or mag spring in the gun. Dropping a shell in from the forward end of the mag tube results in the shell hanging up at the rear edge of the tube, but the round may be easily removed. Feeding a shell into the tube "normally" results in a very stuck shell.

I don't see any damage to the the mag tube, but something is obviously causing the shells to hang up.

My wife essentially has a single shot shotgun, which is her new excuse for missing doubles. ;)

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Do you think you could tell those of us who read your post what the cause of the problem was, and maybe even the solution? Jeez. :banghead:
