Apparently it hasn't occurred to these geniuses that a Neanderthal with a piece of flint could make a perfectly good long pointy object (actually, we don't know that for sure; the Neanderthal caves in Israel have such points, but they may have traded for them.)

Meanwhile the crime rate in Britain skyrockets and gun ownership among the criminals is higher (since it now confers power, whereas in 1890 it merely conferred getting shot by an old lady's airgun umbrella).
