My H&K dilemma

For my 100th post, thought I would get this off my chest.

The first handgun I bought was a USPf in .40 S&W. Got a great deal on it from a buddy that was getting married, and his future Mrs. was an anti.

I loved the way the gun looked. it looks mean. I like the way the gun is set up. As far as safety location, slide release and magazine release, I don't think there is a better gun out there. I like it's flexibilty...you can carry it whatever condition you want to. I believe strongly in it's ruggedness and durabilty.

I liked the caliber! I have confidence that if I do my job(Location, Location, Location!) that the 180gr Golden Saber's will do there job. I didn't think it was too hard to control...I practiced to get quick follow-up shots. I put night-sights on it...I shoot good groups!

Then, I bought a Mk II, and later on a SP-101. And started renting other types of guns.

I have grown less and less thrilled with my H&K. I still like the set up. I still trust the caliber(but I also trust 9mm, .357, and .45!(location, location, location).

My big problem is fit...it just doesn't feel right to me. When the trigger is in its DA position I have a tough time reaching it. for my wife, it is impossible. My SP-101 on the other hand, is a dream. I really like the way revolvers and some other auto's fit my hand.

Do USPc's fit the hand different? If they don't I think I am going to get rid of my H&K...I have handled Sig P220, the Ruger P 90, and the Beretta Mini Cougar...I like the way all of them feel.

Please Skunk, am I crazy to think of jumping of the Tactical side of the street?

The more guns I get, the more I like my USP 45 Compact. But if it's not for you, that's cool!

the compact has a smaller grip circumfrence and a shorter trigger reach. a little snappier in the recoil department but not much. its also more concealeable, lighter and darn near as accurate as the full size. if a local range has one to rent, i'd recommend at least giving it a try. you'll probably find yourself pretty impressed and end up giving your USP a little brother.

My wife bought her Compact because her hands are too small to shoot my full sized USPs (40 and 45) well. The Compact 45 fits her perfectly.

So to answer your question, yes. :)

The USPc fits me ok, the USPf was a little big for my hands. Double stack pistols are a bit large for my hands (size 7). Found myself purchasing single stack pistols because I can grip them better. The sp101 is a much smaller pistol and fits my hand well (though I don't own one), the GP100 is a little big.

My USP40F was also my first gun. I was also less than thrilled with it and ditched it. Do I love HKs? Yeah. But it just didn't do it for me. I didn't care for the caliber. I think the Compacts are more ergonomic, but as much as I like the USP9C, I have no use for it since i shoot my P7M8 better.

Yes! The USP9C is great. I think the USP40C may be the same size?

Nope. I'm selling my USP45C as soon as my holster for my P7M8 is done. Great gun, great caliber, etc. etc. etc., but no point for me having it around.

Some guys will tell you NEVER to sell ANYTHING you have and just buy, and never sell. If I shoot something else better or find a better mousetrap, it's hard for me to hold onto it.

I was dead set on buying a H&K .45 full size with a stainless slide.
I wanted to convert it to .400 cor-bon.
I went to the local galyan's, and they had several H&Ks, compact, and full.
I heard that they were discontinuing the stainless slides in their full size models, so I had to act now.
They had the one I wanted, and it looked like it was the time to buy.
I was curious and asked to see the .45 compact with stainless slide.
Needless to say, I went home with the compact.
It fit my hand soooo much better than the full-size.
I asked why the controls were closer together, and the guy behind the counter said the reason was the full-size used polymer mags, and the compact used thinner, stronger steel mags.
The 9mm compact, and .40 compact are a smaller size yet, but I don't know if they are in fact smaller in the grip, or just the slide.
Then, like an idiot, I shot it that weekend.
It shot so well, I just couldn't buy the conversion barrel.
At least I have a .45 that I like. ;)
