attention history buffs...

Does anyone know if in modern history (or any history) has one country's leader given another country's leader 48 hours (or something like that) to leave their country or there would be WAR?

Not really a history buff but I'll never forget Bush's ultimatum. He's as cowboy as they come.:D

The ultimatum is bogus to begin with. Even if Hussein were to simply abandon his position of power and flee (about as likely as Bush leaving for Canada if Hussein told him too), US troops would be sent in to look for weapons, pacify the region, set up a new autocrat (democratically elected or otherwise), et cetera. The military is going in no matter how Hussein reacts, which makes the ultimatum nothing more than a PR move. Historically, leaders have been less concerned with such things.

Ian:

Powell already stated this. Saddam leaving does not disarm Iraq. Powell said that Saddam must leave and let our troops in peacefully.
