OK, I've hit a dilliema. On one hand, Dunhams has K31's for $99. OTOH, I am taking back a couple of M1's to the North store for repair Friday.

Should I just go ahead and buy a K31 (been putting it off for too long), or save the money incase I find a '03 with a nice stock I can put on my otherwise nice '03 (hate the rough stock it has). Or perhaps a target .22 they have.

I wish there an all of the above, but I can barely scrape enough money for the spare '03, definitely not enough for both.

EDIT: I'd love to wait until after my trip, and if I didn't get an 03, buy the K31, but the sale ends thursday. Suppose I could maybe move the trip up one day, and get the rifle after I get back thursday, but then I lose the option of checking out different stores in the area.

I bought a K31 and it is a very interesting rifle. Only accurate rifles are interesting. Great trigger especially for a military rifle. You will not regret buying one.

Get the K31. The cost of it and some ammo will only set you back a few weeks on saving for the M1, anyway. :)

I have lots of old bolt action because I have a C&R but the only one I will never sell is my K-31. It is far and away the best C&R bolt action I have seen. I don't have a 03 but I do have or have had lots of Mausers, Mosins and other good ones. The K-31 is accurate right out of the box so to speak. I can hit just as well with it as the M-1 and the M-1 is a very accurate rifle. I was plugging the Ace of Spades at 50 yards with the M-1 and the K-31 was shooting just as well on another range trip.

The bad thing about the K-31 is the recoil and the ammo costs. From what I see in print, the 7.7 Swiss round is more powerful than the 30.06, 8mm Mauser or the 7.62x54r. It is a powerhouse that is also accurate. I think it would make a great hunter as is or with a scope. For less than $200 you could have a nice rifle, some ammo, and scope and mount that would be able to take any game in N. America up to and including Elk and Moose.

I've been looking at the K31's for a while now. In fact I have a shotgun for sale now that I would take a K31 for in trade. Get the K31. It will probably not depreciate as much as you think. If an 03 comes around you can sell the K31 for what you paid for it.

Or perhaps a target .22 they have.

Sports Authority in Livonia has an H&R/NEF single shot .22lr with synthetic stock, heavy barrel and scope rail on clearance. As of yesterday they had 4 left. Sale price - $79.94!!!!

Wow, overwhelmingly in favor of the K31. I think it will all boil down to what they have in stock, but I expect a new K31 soon.

From what I see in print, the 7.7 Swiss round is more powerful than the 30.06, 8mm Mauser or the 7.62x54r.

Just a nit to pick, but the correct caliber is 7.5 Swiss.

I also heard tell that Wolf is going to importing 7.5 Swiss ammo into the US soon.

Wolf is the importer, not the manufacturer.

Well, it's been done. I now own a nice Swiss K31. Report to come soon. No name tag, though :(

Uhoh, looks like the people of this board have done a good job of creating a new monster. Might as well buy a couple more rifles while they are on sale until you get one with a tag., you'll probably end up buying more of these rifles anyway after you shoot it.

Honestly, I swore off milsurps back in Decembe!. The five I've bought since were just too good to pass up on! You know how it goes, right? This is REALLY the last one, just like the last five were :D

(actually, I should start moving my spendings towards ammo, and shoot the ones I have more)

I don't own one yet but fully intend to buy one. The wife says I can't have more than three. I have my .22LR (that I want to sell/trade in), yugo sks (best fun gun ever), pa-63 (umm never shot it yet but got it for $70).

I figure the gun limit of three will go away as soon as I get her to go shooting with me. She says she dosn't like them but the fact that every time I have thought about going to a range she has wanted to go tells me some thing.

The k-31 is a tack driver from what I hear. I hope to realy develop some long range skills with it when I get it.

You've heard right. You definitely won't be disappointed when you do get one.

LMAO!

You will not regret buying the K31. I can't beleive they sell as cheap as they do.

BTW, mine will do 2MOA/5 rounds@100yds with issue irons. It deserves a scope to see what it can really do.

What a nice rifle.

OK, pics in a few, just got done taking them.

As for cheap, I seen a statement somewhere that if SIG were to produce the rifle today, It'd cost around $2000.

I like buying $2000 rifles with rough stocks for $99 :D

Heck in another thread I was asking about the k-31 range and accuracy and people said it can place lead inside of 9 inches at 500 yards if you can shoot that well.
