I have one of those NIB Enfields that were imported a good while back. Manufactured in 1954, never fired, wrapped in cosmoline.

It came with the bayonet, but no sling. So, I'm looking for suggestions.

While you can find the British sling that is supposed to fit on it and make it historically correct . What I did with mine was put a G.I. nylon sling that was intended for a M14 on it . It's MUCH easier to adjust to use the sling in something besides the carry mode . A G.I. cotton would work fine too I'd bet .
Those Mk2's shoot great don't they .

Yea, when they don't try to take my shoulder off. Full power round + bolt action + metal buttplate = OUCH! :p

I admit it, I'm a wuss. I put on a slip-on pad.

I don't know what you mean, recoil wise. my utterly stock number4 mk1 has less percieved recoil than my pre '64 model 70 with a recoil pad.

I also have one of those NIB Enfield No4Mk2s. That English snot they pour over those rifles before the paper wrap is a real PIA to clean off. I purchased a historically correct rifle sling. I think from www.northridgeinc.com or www.sarcoinc.com. Although it is the correct sling, I would have to agree with another poster who said an m14/M1 nylon sling is better suited as a shooting sling.

As to recoil. I shoot my Mosin Nagant M38 and after that canon, the Enfield's a pussycat (takes me a minute to get rid of my M38 twitch)

I shoot mostly 243, 25-06 and 270 and I've never been particularly offended by the recoil of military ammo in the enfield with a brass or aluminum plate.

Now the M44 carbine with full power 7.62x54R is another matter though still managable.

I bought my Enfields from Brian Dick.

Don't know if he has anymore of the unissued Enfields.
