The upcoming Dove season will be cancelled until the matter goes on the ballot in November 2006. The filers of the petitions, the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban, are supported by the Humane Society of the United States, which is also actively opposing the Right to Hunt amendment to the Michigan State Constitution as well as working against hunting rights in other states.

The only problem I have with Dove hunting is it is restricted to the souther part of the state. Them dang birds are all over up here.

Be patient. We went through this nonsense in Wisconsin for a few years, but as of last fall it was all good.

The only thing I don't like about dove season is spending an afternoon seeing only a few birds, and then watching 8 or 9 big fat ones mooching off the feeder when I pull into the driveway. If popping them in the yard wouldn't bring a full-on SWAT response, I'd be sorely tempted. ;) :D

I got plenty of dove shooting going on down here. We average almost 3 birdstrikes a week on our airfield.

I bagged 16 yesterday morning alone and still had around 60 get away.

I don't know why any state would want to ban dove hunting. Hope it all works out up there.

At this point, I am not all that optimistic. Since it will be up to a referendum to decide, both sides will have to persuade the millions of non-hunting urbanites that make up a good chunk of the electorate. The anti's will bombard TV with celebrity ads and depictions of "cruel" hunters shooting the "helpless bird of peace." :banghead:
