I am thinking about a .22 for varmint, plinking and a training pistol for my wife...Based on an article I read in one of the gun rags the .22 mag is excellent for coyote (which I have)and smaller. My first question is can you shoot the mag from a .22 lr barrel? OK, does that question tell you how little I know of barrels/ammo? I did not see a .22 mag barrel offered, only the .22 lr. I had thought about getting something in the hot new .17HMR but for various reasons would like to go with the Win Mag .22...OK a penny for your thoughts

not sure which model. I much prefer my Ruger MkII though. More accurate and more reliable. As for the .22 mag in a .22lr barrel, I don't think that it's even possible. The .22 mag has a much bigger case. Either way, don't try it as is would be a very dangerous situation. If you want a good .22 mag pistol, buy a Ruger Single Six revolver. They come with a .22lr cylinder also. To change calibers you simply swap out the cylinder. Don't know why you would want a .22 mag. Not that much to be gained for the extra cost of the ammo. Same with the 17 hmr. Just can't see paying $10 for a box of 50. And finally, as for the Idea of hunting coyotes with a .22 mag pistol, good luck. I'll bet that there are quite a few predator callers rolling on the floor over that one. :)
