"Will Saddam Leave" ???

Financial markets and bookies have done better that 'the polls' at predicting the success of armed conflicts in recent history.

The Dow closed today up over 8100 for the first time in a month. Coincidence? I think (hope) not. And BTW, I put more credibility in investor (i.e. someone who actually has something to lose) confidence than the average malcontent, proctologically-challenged protestor in the street.

Anyone got the line out of Vegas?

Gang aft agley.

What do you think?

Will Saddam and his sons leave within 48 hours or not?

At worse he will escape, at best he will go down like Hitler, his idol.

I guess it comes down to greed or pride- I gave him the benefit of the doubt and went with pride- no, he won't leave.:(

No.

Islam needs more martyrs.

He's either #1 or 2 on the list and is obviously ready to meet Mohammed.

He will leave when he is wearing a toe tag, surrounded by a black plastic baggy.

He wants to be a martyr. Chances are he'll become one :)

He is not going anywhere. He will die travelling around Bagdad in a car, bus, taxi/Winnebago or he will see death in a bunker near one of his palaces.

He will not flee Iraq.. He wants to be a martyr and all that..;)

(If he wishes to die, the U.S. military will grant him his wish.)

Unfortunately, he will have to be forcebly removed from power. Why couldn't he be like Kadafi in Lybia and just do what he's told & stop being a so & so?

Uh, you guys do know that Saddam Hussein is not a Muslim, right?

He probably won't go into exile. Beyond that, it's tough to say.

Chris,

What is your source of information that Saddam Hussein is not of the Muslim religion? My understanding is that he is of the Sunni Sect of that religion. OTOH, I may have been misinformed. :what:

When they cordon off Baghdad, I hope they use something like a wall for part of it so the Iraqi insurgents can toss his head over the wall....

Intrepid -

I have read it in literally so many places that I couldn't give you a single source. I'm willing to be proven wrong, tho.

I do see where you are coming from, though. The Iraqi government, Saddam included, has cozied up to the muslim community since the first gulf war, mainly by building mosques and handing over cash to the Palestinians (I've also heard tales of Saddam writing a Koran in his own blood, but that sounds like an urban legend to me.) The reasons for this seem pretty clear to me. Still, the Baath party remains secular and hardcore socialist to this day.

Point I was trying to make was that Saddam has a very expedient relationship with the muslim world, and likely has no desire at all to be a martyr.

Yeah, I'll put $10 on that. My main money goes on betting for us, but with those odds it is a cheap covering bet. :D

Agree wholeheartedly with the first point, not sure about the second.
Maybe he doesn't want to be a martyr for Islam, but he seems dead set on martyring himself for something.

Saddam cannot run.

Where would he go? He is not like Bin Laden who is practiced at it, and there are many people who would love to catch him away from his power center. And not all of them are US citizens.

No, he won't leave. Is he a Muslim? Well, about like Bill Clinton is a Christian.

Osama considers Saddam an infidel. I'd say the difference between the two is that Osama's politics serve his religious beliefs, while Saddam's expressions of religion serve his political ambitions. Hard to see how martyrdom fits into that plan.

I'm overwhelmingly in the minority on the vote, but I will venture that Saddam's most important goal is keeping Saddam alive and able to pursue his goal of domination.

I suspect he'll flee to a haven run by an equally-despicable sociopath...up to and including France.

Saddam not Muslim? Maybe not a good Muslim, but he's Muslim.

All that's required to become a Muslim is to recite the Shahadah (Witness);
There is no god but God and Muhammad is God's messenger.
Say that and, bam! you're a Muslim.

The other 4 Pillars of Islam are preferable in order to be a good Muslim, but not required.

toe tagged when he leaves this guy is an arrogant piece... his troops already trying to surrender is a sign , or a good trick to play .
