In what year did Mr. Garand test fire his semi-automatic rifle with a 20 rd. detachable magazine.

not sure of year, but i'd say ....... early to mid 20s. if i remeber right, original design included a detachable Mag.
army said no b/c they wanted a gun that could facilitate the same type of Prone position as a M-1903, (old habits die hard), adn they were afraid a soldier in prone would have to break position to reload if the weapon had a Detachable mag.
did i get it right or have i confused myself based on the requirements from BEFORE garand got going??

My guess would be around 1944. If I remember correctly thats when the T44 was in prototype.

1921. I seem to remember a Garand Prototype from around that time. Otherwise, I'd have to say it was the T20 in 1944. Army specifications said that it had to be no greater than 10 rounds capacity.

Mr. John C. Garand test fired a semi-automatic rifle with a 20 rd. detachable magazine in 1920.
