I mean the list of manufacture dates of the S&W Model 19's? I'd look it up myself if I knew where to look. I just bought my first big-caliber revolver, a 357 6" model 19-5. It is in great shape, came with a nice brown belt holster and I paid $230.00 for it. Curious as to the year. The serial number is AAT24XX. I have a fair amount of semi's. This is my first S&W. Is there some sort of method to the way they assign model number? I've been to three state fairs and a rodeo - never saw anything like that!

thanks, cs :D

The 19-5 was made between 1982-1988.
I'm not sure about your serial number. Sorry.

1982
You should buy the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" by Jim Supica & Richard Nahas. Great reference for S&W firearms.

Not to burst your bubble, but a .357 is a medium caliber not big. Big calibers start with the number 4.

Thanks, all. 1982 eh? Thanks. I'll get that book (catalog) and maybe won't be posting new questions on old, well-known subjects! Good thing I don't embarrass much! "Big" instead of "medium" - oh, the shame of it all! And I am usually a stickler for correct terminology!
Anyway - I am going to fire the new (to me) model 19 today. Doing some reading and kind of think that 158-grain will be right for about anything I want to do. Seems everybody makes 'em, in all sorts of configurations in .38 spl. as well as .357 magnum. So, I got a box of cheapo PMC 158 gr. LRN to go out and have fun with. Strange grip compared to a semi, and seems to be a very light trigger on single-action. We shall see!

thanks again, cs

I have yet to find the list on the net also. I think I may have to break down and get the book. In the meantime, anyone know the born on date of a S&W Mod 15-3 Ser# K882XXX?

Your S&W model 15-3 with S/N K882XXX was made in 1969, my friend. :D
