I recently read a statement from Attorney General John Ashcroft that I considered so impressive that I've made it my new sig line.

Islam teaches that you must send your son to die for God!

Christianity teaches that God sent His Son to die for you.

At the very least this should go to L&P. They might lock you over there.

Remember when Ashcroft covered the bare breasts of the Lady Justice statue because he was offended by them? Hahaha! What about when he said that black cats are harbingers of the Devil? That boy ain't right in the head.:scrutiny:

Steve,

I'm curious. Why on earth woud they lock this thread? I din't see where Ashcroft's comment could be considered unacceptable. do you?

1) Where in the Koran does it say that you must send your son to die for God?

2) I seem to recall something about a burning bush and being willing to sacrifice your son for God ... it's in this book that Christians hold in favor ... starts with a "B" if I recall correctly

3) Plenty of governments well into the last century used Christianity to coax people to send their boys to die. Does this mean that Christianity asks people to send their sons to die (as opposed to the politicians using the religion)?

I'm curious. Why on earth woud they lock this thread? Um, it might have something to do with bashing a religion other than your own. Just a wild guess.

For a LONG time Christianity also taught that dying in the service of God was noble and good.

The Crusades, for example.

The concept of Soldiers of Christ, comprising soldiers AND missionaries, is an old one. Essentially, it provided much of the basis for the Spanish Conquest of South and Central America.

This statement, if true, is at best a gross simplification; at worst, totally inaccurate.

All kinds of people all over the world have done terrible things in the name of God, Allah, Iehovah, Yaweh, Lord Shiva, etc., inter alia. No one bothers to practice what their religion preaches.

This war is not about Islam. Saddam is a ruthless thug who harbors, aids and comforts other thugs. Actually the Qu'ran thumpers can't stand him or his regime (and now we'll have to deal with that next--joy).

When and where did Ashcroft say this?
