CA: Bay Area Shoot Late June/Early July

June 8, 2005, 08:02 PM
Hey y'all. The last shoot back in march was fun, but march is month 3, and we're already in month 6, so its time to do it again.

Los Altos as usual or change it up and go chabot?

Sorry, I missed last one. I am also open for Chabot.

Late June/Early July is a possibility. Once we have a date, I will try to go.

BTW, my buddy asked to go up there this Sunday - 6/12. I'm thinking about going. :)

June 8, 2005, 09:18 PM
First one I'd be able to make. Both Chabot and Los Altos are about the same distance from home, Chabot being just a little further.

June 8, 2005, 10:03 PM
I'm in Sacramento, but I might make the drive if I'm around then.

June 14, 2005, 04:00 AM
I'm generally up for stuff on weekends. Depends on a bunch of other circumstances though.

June 14, 2005, 12:15 PM
1 am? geez, what do you do during the day?

June 15, 2005, 12:49 AM
Students stay up late. It's part of our job description.

Especially if it's summer.

June 15, 2005, 02:25 AM
When there's no school the next day, I usually go to bed around 0300-0400 hours.

June 15, 2005, 02:43 AM
is school out?

June 15, 2005, 02:55 AM
I'm up for another shoot. Los Altos is nice because of the BBQ and tin can range.

June 15, 2005, 03:25 AM
School's out for pretty much everybody except UCLA, UCR, UCI, UCD, UCSD, UCSC, UCSB - all the UC's except Berkeley. We've all got our finals this week. I'm taking a break from studying for my math final to post.

atek, you need to get some kids, then you'll know when it's summer and school's out :p

June 15, 2005, 06:36 PM
I'm inclined to do this as well in early July. I live near Los Altos, but I think I'd rather shoot at Chabot.

June 15, 2005, 06:37 PM
Definitely Chabot.

June 16, 2005, 04:05 PM
I haven't ever been to Chabot, but I like that Los Altos, as mentioned before, has a BBQ pit and a tin can range. It's very beautiful, too.

June 16, 2005, 04:47 PM
i havent shot at Chabot since 1990 i think....too bad you guys cant get us out-of-staters to bring Class III stuff in. i would go visit my parents in San Jose..... :)

June 16, 2005, 09:36 PM
Paging QBG... Paging QBG...

June 16, 2005, 10:02 PM
What? Did someone say my name?

Sounds good on the tentative time- early July is only a week or so away. How about Saturday, July 2nd?. I’m biased towards Los Altos simply ‘cause I like it. Haven’t been to Chabot in a million years. No tin can range is a bummer – that seems to be where we spend most of our time blowing stuff up. And do they have a BBQ facility?

I’m ok with just sandwiches out of a cooler if it comes to that, but I do like pinwheeling those soda cans.

June 16, 2005, 10:33 PM
oooh, I don't know about the 2nd, thats awfully close, holiday weekend, people on vacation etc... what about the weekend after that?

PS and I'm going to a track day up at thunderhill that weekend :)

June 16, 2005, 10:34 PM
I'm going home for the holiday weekend. Can we bump it to the next weekend?

June 16, 2005, 11:12 PM
woah woah woah...I'm not the decision maker! I just threw a date out there and if you guys want to kick it to death like a helpless puppy with no legs... well I'm ok with that.

Ok. How about the second Saturday in July? The 9th?

Can I get an amen?

then it's just a steel cage death match between Chabot and Los Altos.

June 16, 2005, 11:46 PM
Well July 9th at Chabot it is...

June 17, 2005, 01:29 AM
QBG is right... We DO spend most of our time at the tin can range. I like Los Altos.

June 17, 2005, 04:01 AM
There's myself and about 4-5 others from Kim du Toit's Nation of Riflemen forum (with a "possible" from a female I know) who are going to be at Chabot from the minute they open on Saturday until they kick us out at the end of the day or we run out of ammo.

In all likelihood, it'll probably be the former. :-P

Anyone interested in meeting up with us should drop me a PM. I'll be the guy with the bright blue padded post-surgery bootie (had surgery a week ago Monday), wearing the "Peace Through Superior Firepower" OD-green t-shirt, and waddling around like a penguin. You shouldn't be able to not see me there.

June 19, 2005, 05:16 AM
So, July 9th at Los Altos? ;)

June 19, 2005, 11:31 AM
Bring your non-tactical round gun Henry :D

June 20, 2005, 02:22 AM
Does anyone know how wide the shooting bench is on the tin can range? I need 28" for my mount that holds to 30 cal ammo cans one holds the linked ammo and the other catches the links.

Sure would like to bring my 1919 out to the tin can range.

June 20, 2005, 03:36 PM
If any of you are free sat. july 2nd, there is going to be a little calguns shindig at chabot, which I and some friends will be attending, y'all are definately invited.

June 23, 2005, 05:00 PM
I've had it with Los Altos Rod and Gun Club. Just got off the phone with them and have been informed that my belt fed 1919 would not be allowed up there. First they ban .50 BMG's and now this what's next?

It is their range and they have the right to set the rules, I'll just spend my money at Metcalf.

June 23, 2005, 05:54 PM
I just love how decisive we can be...

Seriously, what does everyone think? 'Would be nice to plan ahead for it.
I like the 9th at Los Altos... dunno about other people though. Should we take a poll or something?

June 25, 2005, 02:59 PM
Um, yeah. Great.

June 25, 2005, 04:12 PM
Kids these days.. no respect for thoughtful deliberations; it's always with the snap decision. I blame MTV and all that Hippity Hop music.

Ok so we have a date: July 9th.

So now we just need a range; Los Altos or Chabot. And in the ultimate display of irony I vote either one. I like Los Alos but I haven't been to Chabot in a really long time and wouldn't mind seeing it.

So there. Let the democratic process begin.

June 25, 2005, 10:21 PM
Ok recived a email from los altos range stating they will allow my 1919 up there. I'm on for the 9th.

June 25, 2005, 11:00 PM
Ok, I can't pass up the chance to see sned45's 1919, so I'm in for Los Altos.

June 26, 2005, 12:31 AM
see it? Your welcome to shoot it. But don't blame me if you want to buy one. :D

June 26, 2005, 01:22 AM
Los Altos. The 9th. Be there.

June 26, 2005, 01:23 AM
Something came up that day. :)

Bay Profs is doing their 'instructor development class' at target masters, I'd like to be there for that...any chance we could push the los altos shoot to the sunday july 10th?

June 26, 2005, 01:58 AM
Hmm... I believe that works for me. I'll have to check, though.

June 26, 2005, 03:52 AM
you guys are killing me; I'm sticking to the 9th...

jerry mguire style:...WHO'S WITH ME!!!!

50 Freak
June 26, 2005, 06:21 AM
The 9th????

I'm up for it. Sned bring your BFG. I'll bring my UM50. Lets have a little competition. ;) ;)

June 26, 2005, 03:30 PM
50 Freek, they don't allow 50's up there.

June 27, 2005, 07:37 AM
I'm up for either the 9th or the 10th, but might I put it out there that we could change the weekend if it would work out for people better...

July 5, 2005, 09:25 PM
'ello? are people coming this weekend or not? I need to plan.

July 5, 2005, 09:50 PM
D'oh! I want to make this but I have tix for the SF-STL game on the 9th. If you guys agree to make it the 10th or the following week I'm definitely in.

And, if my vote counts, I vote for Chabot. But will go to Los Altos since I've never been there.

July 5, 2005, 09:58 PM
Yo. I'll be there, the 9th. Are we doing food? If so, I should call Los Altos and make sure they're ok with the BBQ.

July 5, 2005, 11:04 PM
I'm in, and I'll call Los Altos tomorrow if no one else does.

Count me for paper plates and plastic knifey spoony things. Probably waster and sodas in the cooler and some stuff for the 'que. I've still got lighter fluid and stuff from the last gig so I'll lug those slong as well.

ARs and AKs for everyone. Any new shooters coming? Lemme know and I'll bring a .22 rifle and pistol.

Can we get a roll-call?

July 6, 2005, 04:29 AM
OOkay! I just might very well be in for the 9th too.

July 6, 2005, 08:54 PM
It turns out my church's annual picnic is on the 9th, so...

I'm sorry, but between God and guns, I pick God every time. Y'all have fun now, y'hear?

July 6, 2005, 10:09 PM
ClonaKilty & CleverName; we'll take and post a lot of pictures so you can see what you missed; and besides- it's not like we'll never do this again, right?

July 7, 2005, 12:41 PM
If I CAN go, I'll bring charcol and probably some food.

However, It'll most likely be Friday until I know whether I'm able to attend or not, so don't count on me.

July 7, 2005, 12:43 PM
Backpack trip on the 8th, can't make it (again).

July 7, 2005, 02:02 PM
ClonaKilty & CleverName; we'll take and post a lot of pictures so you can see what you missed; and besides- it's not like we'll never do this again, right?

Awww, allright. Have fun, be safe and don't start any fires... :p

July 7, 2005, 06:24 PM
Well I just got off the phone with the nice lady at Los Altos; we're good to go on the barbecue. No Boy Scouts in site.

So far it looks like me and Telperion for sure. Atek3!! Need a ride?

That can't be everyone.

July 7, 2005, 06:55 PM
Hey guys, looks like I might be able to go!

Bringing a friend too, is there anything weird with parking I should know about? How much money should I bring?

July 7, 2005, 11:29 PM
Most excellent winston! We'll bring this city under control yet!

Figure $30 each for range fees and eyes/ears protection unless you bring your own.

Parking is no problem and no charge.

Bring the four rules and we're good to go.

July 8, 2005, 12:31 AM
I'm in, where and when do we meet up? What can I bring to BBQ?

What range will everyone be shooting at?

July 8, 2005, 10:51 AM
Sned45- bring whatever you like to put on the 'que; we seem to usually meet up at the 40 yard tin can range- look for the loudest ugliest blue Hawaiian shirt; I'll be in it.

July 8, 2005, 12:30 PM
What time is this whole shabang going to end? My ride is pooping out, can't drive me till around 2, meaning I wont arrive there till after 3, which I think might be too late, but might not. Henry, I might have to take you up on that ride....

July 8, 2005, 03:14 PM
I suspect that I can make it -- what time on the 9th? Is the tin can range rifle only?

July 8, 2005, 08:17 PM
106rr: No, that's just generally where we meet.

Winston: Check your cell messages.

July 8, 2005, 09:12 PM
The tin can range seems to be where we spend most of our time; it's open to all calibers; handgun and rifle. The nice thing is they allow rapid fire of .22 on that range.

July 9, 2005, 12:14 AM
I've got some dogs, buns, potato salad, and water. I plan on being there around 10:30 how about everyone else?

July 9, 2005, 12:19 AM
I'm bringing some paint-n-water filled bottles... I'd advise all y'all to do the same. Tin can range allows bottles with water up to 1 gal., plus soda cans, IIRC.

Paint is always fun... pretty colors.

Also bringing some charcol, steak, and watermelon.

July 9, 2005, 12:53 AM
I'm planning to arrive 10-10:30. I don't have much space in the car for food, so I'll just bring some snacks and grab some soda tomorrow morning before I drive up.

July 9, 2005, 03:48 AM
I suppose I might stop by some time tomorrow.

July 9, 2005, 05:36 AM
Damn... I'm gonna have to leave in a few hours. Gonna be tired at the shoot.

See y'all there.

July 9, 2005, 11:21 AM
I won't be able to make it this time. See you next time.

July 9, 2005, 11:45 AM
I'm bummed. Can't make it... serves me right for not checking in a while.

July 9, 2005, 09:33 PM
Ok let's just get this out of the way right now:

Sned45's 1919 is super badass, awesome. And by awesome I mean sweeeet.

OK, smallish group this time, myself, Telperion, Atek3, CombatWombat & Sned45, but still fun as always. The weather was just about perfect and we haven't had rain in awhile so no mud this time. We spent most of our time (as usual) on the 40yd. tin can range; decimating the relentless waves of the attacking plastic water bottles.

They never stood a chance.

Atek3 picking off the leaders of the plastic hoard with my M4. Telperion is next to him with his Sig .357 in FULL RECOIL ACTION™

Something you never want to see when it's angry.

Myself evening the odds against the tougher skinned plastic jugs with my M1A, again in FULL RECOIL ACTION™ with extra brass flying goodness.

Telperion hosing the bottles old school 1919 style but with hi-speed lo-drag flavor via the HoloSight.

And then the mandatory BBQ and BS session afterwards, and not a tofu dog or veggie burger in sight. Just plain old meat on fire.

Missed the people that couldn’t make it, it’s always more fun with a larger crowd, but we have the whole rest of the summer... so should we start planning now?

July 9, 2005, 09:59 PM
Some more pics of people with the day's featured attraction:

July 9, 2005, 11:16 PM
Weird... something about that cool pic with Chris and the M1A with the brass flying has a "Taken in 1978" kinda quality to it... Something with the lighting, or maybe only the aviator sunglasses. Either way, I think it looks cool.

July 9, 2005, 11:41 PM
I'm sorry I missed it.

July 9, 2005, 11:51 PM
Oh, Sned45, DO tell me again where you got your 1919... link to the manufacturer perhaps?

July 9, 2005, 11:52 PM
I missed this one again... :(

The 1919 looks so cool. Is it 30-06, or 308?

July 10, 2005, 12:29 AM
the m1a shot with the brass in the air, that was all me, and my mad action capture skillz

July 10, 2005, 12:36 AM
Great fun guys. chambered in .308.

I got a parts kit from a group buy on If your interested in building one you will need a parts kit, right side plate 80% or 100% your choice, machineing done for the thicker right side plate, and few welds.

All the parts can be found on If you have any questions I will do my best to help.

You can buy a 1919 ready to go for 2k at but it's much cheaper to build your own.

July 10, 2005, 02:02 AM
Um, If I remember correctly, I was the one who took QBGs pics while he was shooting the M1A. I specifically tried to get a brass shot. I took da pic, fool! Ooooh, what now? Yo best be backin' up!

Okay, so I suck at picture taking and I've been up 31 hours now... gimme a break.

July 10, 2005, 12:37 PM
Geez, we'd have been there if it wasn't for the fact that we didn't notice there was a get together until yesterday morning. Have not been on THR much lately!

sned45, I really thought belt fed (semi-auto or not) were banned under our wonderful assault weapon laws. Is yours pre-2000?

I would love to have a 1919A4 ...

July 10, 2005, 05:20 PM
1919's are legal to own and buy in CA. You can't buy cloth belts because of the ban but you can run 10rnd links.

July 26, 2005, 12:53 AM
New red dot mount I just made for my 1919. this should make it easier to shoot.

July 26, 2005, 12:56 AM
Nice looking 1919. The closest thing I have seen to a 1919 is a parts kit :)
