I'm looking for an inexpensive break-open or bolt-action .357 mag rifle with a heavy barrel (preferrably). Does such an animal exist (don't really care for the Contenders/Encores)? Thanks.

not anymore. they had some barrels available recently through thier Barrel Accessory Program. call them and see if they still have any. but then you'd have to buy a rifle, then send it out to get the 357 barrel.

They did make one in SS with a survivor stock set. I had one and just sold it.

Buy one of the H&R Handi-rifles with a receiver marked "SB2" and you can get accessory barrels from .22 Hornet on up to 45-70, "-06, etc. If you buy an SB1 marked rifle you can still get extra barrels, but calibers are "limited" to about 20 choices of handgun, rifle and shotgun calibers. DO NOT BUY A SHOTGUN as you cannot get rifle barrels for it, only extra shottie tubes.

Hey 1911, thanks, but so which of the guns are SB2 receiver guns? I mean, the Handi-rifle, the survivor, etc., etc....which are SB1, and which are SB2, being as I don't think they're advertised as such. And the extra bbls you speak of, for the SB2, you mean are from NEF, not a third party maker, right? Are there calibers then from NEF not shown on the website? Can you explain anything else about the compatibility of the NEFs to one another and bbls?

Also, side question - anyone gotten the NEF in .500 S&W mag yet?

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like I might be looking for a cheap one that has a barrel that I can use and then try to score an additional .357 barrel.

Brian, too bad it wasn't me you sold it to. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it sell for?

and you can get a whole page of caliber choices from them. Mine is marked SB1. You'll need to send the receiver to them for headspacing.
