what gun(s) you USED to dislike...

I thought this may be interesting... What gun(s) did you previously dislike but later found that you did like them and even possibly ended up owning them. What made you change your mind?
For me, the first was single action revolvers. I just couldn't understand why my dad would shoot those or (gasp) even carry one in the field, when he had that cool looking double action revolver he could have carried. I can't really narrow down what changed my mind, possibly an interest in the west and the frontier lifestyle as I got older, but more importantly they just became really fun to shoot. And now myself and some auto-minded friends really dig the looks of a nice single action. I currently own a ruger vaquero 45 colt, and a bisley 357.

Next, was the Glock. Swore I would never own one because I just preferred more traditional looking autoloaders- and just didn't get the whole polymer thing. I am still not crazy about the looks of it- but I just have a ball shooting my G22! I somehow shoot it better than any of my other autos, and after a session firing it yesterday evening, I was grinning ear to ear...

Hrmm... Plastic guns in general. I never really swore I'd never have one, just having grown up with 1911s and S&W revolvers, though I'd prefer larger, heavier guns. Now I have a P32 on me every waking moment. Sometimes a 1911s there, sometimes not.

I used to hate military surplus rifles... they were always dirty and nasty and I never understood why anyone would want one, let alone actually collect the. I've since been cured of that.

Never really liked the PP/PPK/PPK/S pistols but I haven't got over that yet.

I have couple. First is ALL polymer guns. Up until 2 years ago,I HATED poly-guns. Then I bought my first USP. 4 USPs later, I'm a convert! The other is my Taurus revolver. Hated the heavy & gritty trigger. I couldn't even give the thing away! Then when I dedicated myselft to shooting DA, I warmed up to it. Now, any other trigger I use is at the very least, acceptable. It'll never be what my mod 19 is, but it's a good little training tool :)

I was always very lukewarm on S&W autos, until I owned a few and had nothing but good experiences with them. My 411, 4513TSW, and 1066 all ran without problems from day one. I just picked up a 908, which will hopefully continue my string of good luck with S&W autos.

Being young once, I used to want wondernines with the highest capacity magazines. 9mm -hot & fast!

I scorned the 1911 with it's measly .45ACP. An old-timer's gun.

Now I've discovered why the 1911 platform is so great. Also dedicated to the .45ACP.

Big Bore Revolvers.
In my youth a set of grips split and broke and cut my hand.
Attitudes changed

When I was in the Army, I did not like the M14. The one I used in basic training was a real dog. Jammed all the time. After basic I went to Armor school and did not have much to do with the M14. I told a friend of mine that I would never have one. Well today I have an M1A and love it.

I actually hated the Glock 17 back in the 80s when I first laid eyes on it. Swore I'd never waste my money on it. Now that I've had my 17 for 15+ years, think maybe I'll just keep it.

I really used to dislike the Ruger P series, ugly, and it didn't feel right in my hand.

But now I saw the two tone version with Hogue Grips, handled it, like the price too. And I see so much good sayings about it. Maybe I will get one later.

I've always liked Glocks... :p

I used to dislike 1911s. The ones I had exerience with either were not very accurate or just plain didn't work. Then I bought my first Les Baer 1911. Now LB 1911s are about all that I own. Watch-Six

Glocks. Never had time for them, never wanted anything to do with them. Last year, just all of a sudden, I had to have a G26. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

Para-ordnance. Fat grip and way too heavy when fully loaded. ' said, I'll never own one. ' got into IPSC and barrowed a P-16 from a friend and ended up buying one myself. Its now my Limited and limited 10 gun. Sometimes I even shoot in open with it!
Never say never!

I used to loathe, detest, and despise the model 1911 and its .45 A.C.P. cartridge.

I still don't think a great deal of the cartridge, but after buying a Kimber, I'll concede there's nothing inherently wrong with the pistol's design.

I still don't care for plastic guns and the nine-millimeter cartridge, and so haven't bought any, although I've rented a Glock or two, and was surprised to discover I could accommodate myself to their triggers.

Revolvers. I used to think autos were the wave of the future. Now I see that the old revolver still holds a place in the shooting world that has not really been filled very well by autos. My new S&W M19 is fast becoming one of my favoite handguns. Accuracy is unbelievable and it is easy to shoot.

Ironically, when I first saw the CZ-75 (the A model) about 3 years ago I thought "Yuck, thats just not pleasing, who would want that" well I ending up eating those words :D . I also used to hate blue finished guns I wanted stainless, brution, tenifer or Superfly Armored Plated Finishes, now I think blue finishes are the best, espcailly on revovlers and will last just as long with some TLC.

Rugers. I had shot my friend's gun (P97DC) a few times but didn't like it. It seemed too weird lookin' or something. I don't know really what it was but just didn't like it. Then I bought a P95DC and liked it and later ended up buying my friend's Ruger!

The 1911A1. I used to HATE them. I thought they were ugly, obsolete, inaccurate and possessing to little "firepower" to be a contender in the modern world of the high capacity 9mms.

That was 10 years ago. I've since learned that a properly built 1911A1 is more durable, accurate and pleasing to the eye than any SIG P226/P220 HK Tactical, S&W 19 or Glock.

I have many years of training and tens of thousands of rounds experience with double action handguns, but I've found that DAs will never equal the speed and accuracy attainable with a 1911 possessing crisp, 4lb. trigger.

Didn't care for the 1911 platform, first couple of them I shot were poor examples...rattled a lot, didn't seem to fit me. Hit the paper, but not the sillouette.

About 8 years back, shooting buddy bought a mil-spec Springfield. After he got the "only works with REAL USGI Ball" ammo issues resolved, I shot it a few times, and changed my mind about the 1911 platform.

Still not a fan of polymer weapons, though.

First, I didn't like autos.
Then I bought a H&K usp compact .45 stainless.
Then I didn't like glocks.
I am now the proud owner of a G20.
Didn't like S&W wheel guns
I lost count of how many I own, don't ask.
Didn't like 9mm pistols.
I now own 3, soon to be 5.
Didn't like CZ pattern weapons.
I now own 2 cz75s.
Didn't like 1911s.
Just bought a razorback.

During all this time, only a few constants.
I STILL DON'T LIKE HI-POINTS.

When I first got in to guns, I really never cared for a revolver. Now that's what I lust for, everytime I buy something, I think in terms of how many revolvers that cost me.:D

As I said before I didn't used to like Kel-tec firearms, well I still don't, but the carbine is starting to look real good!

When I was young and stupid, and long before the days of forums such as this, I read gun magazines. Jan Libourel, Dave Arnold, Mas Ayoob, and others convinced me that "wondernines," as they were then called, were the only way to go for defense guns. The 1911 design was obsolete, totally unreliable, and almost criminally dangerous if dropped or pointed at a bad guy.

I bought a SIG P226 and trotted off to a class with a localish instructor, who also happened to be a multiple-time graduate of Orange Gunsite. I was quickly shown the error of my ways, and was exposed to the One True Way. I traded the SIG for a Colt Commander which saw me through a course with Chuck Taylor. I started winning local IPSC-style matches after that, Commander in hand.

Funny thing, when I showed up at LFI-I, Mas didn't sneer at my Commander...though he was packing a P226!

The very same Commander rides on my hip daily, fourteen years later.

Dislike is too strong of a word for the SIG P220 but I sold it because I preferred other guns in .45 ACP. Now that I have a P220ST I guess you could say I'm a fan of the P220 again. Although the ST is a whole different beast all together. ;)

that applies to Glock's and Beretta's.

I ended up owning (3) Glock's: 17, 23, and 27
and one Beretta 92 fs Centurion model.

Nothing wrong with any of them; just that I
was thinking of them with a "closed mind"!

It used to be 92Fs and Smith autos. I initally trained on the Glock, so I thought at the time it was the bee's knee's. Saw alot of Smith autos in the used rack, and just did not like the 92F.
So now my Glock sits in the safe, the 92F is the competition gun, and the Smith auto rides with me everyday.

I've gone in two directions.

The number of gun designs that I like enough to buy has dwindled. Any old gun just doesn't do it for me, anymore.

On the flip side, I've starting to see the utility of some guns (like the Beretta 92) that I've never cared for in the past. If I "needed" a gun, the list is now bigger than it used to be.

But I sure don't need anymore guns.

First it was custom Ruger 10/22's. My son built one, I tried it. I built two that I shoot regularly.

Next it was C&R type military rifles. I presently own a CETME, a Yugo SKS, a SAR1. While not all C&R, I am constantly scanning shotgun news, and considering a license.

Then it was polymer handguns. I bought a USP on a great deal. I shot it. It became my favorite, and I later bought the USPc.

I deplored revolvers, and single actions in particular. Two weeks ago, I found a new Cimarron Thunderer in .357 for $150 off MSRP. I bought it. I shot it. I'm hooked, and looking at blackpowder stuff now......

First one I shot bit me. Hated 1911`s for that. And was told you could not hit the side of a barn with a 1911.

Now I own two,1911`s both are 45acp:scrutiny:

I used to dislike revolvers (archaic, old fashioned, bulky, clunky) until I fired one for the first time.

Now I've got a small collection of older Smith K-frames that I shoot more than any others. These guns give me real pleasure to shoot.

I just needed to see the light, I guess.

Unlike many others on here I started out using Glocks, I always thought the 1911 to be too involved for my tastes...I wanted something simple.

Several years ago I became a firearms Instructor..and the quest for my perfect pistol began. I now own several Glocks, a Dan Wesson revolver and a Springfield Armory 1911...not to mention the rifles.

I now will probably never buy another Glock, but will keep what I own. I will probably never buy anything but the 1911's from here on out...I am hooked on them and think they are by far the best pistol ever built...that's why they are still in production today!

I used to think that a shrouded hammer snub-nose was the ugliest gun made. But since I got my concealed weapons license, I appreciate the advantage of that design, and no longer think of it as ugly. In fact, my next gun will likely be a S&W PD.

Didn't like Taurus's........And after I got my 608, 8 shot .357 that was all stainless, 8in Barrel ,ported........I hated'em even more.

Thing was a joke........I could not hit the broad side of a barn with it.......And I'm a great shot. Damn chambers were off.......Thing shaved a bullet on me. and the force'n cones face was as ruff as a peice of sand paper. It was a more expensive model too.

That sucker got sent back.......Be the last time I buy a Taurus.

Well, my first serious handguns were revolvers, but as soon as I could, I "promoted" myself to a wondernine. Revolvers were so old-fashioned. Also, 1911's were dull. I mean, they made interesting raceguns, but they were ugly, and I'd rather have a Glock.

Lord, 24-26 years old and I knew it all, baby. ;)

Now I'll walk past tables of Glocks and SIGs and USPs and what-have-you at gun shows, looking for old revolvers and nice 1911's.

Used to think the 1911 was a silly anachronism, then I started shooting one. Now I think they're pretty great, though spotty reliability and high prices still bug me. I still dislike 1911 fanboys though .

Didn't care for revolvers. Too many cops shows and James Bond movies I suppose. But then I grew up and began to think in more practical terms. And "real world" experience proved the revolver was more practical for my everyday needs. I still have Autos and enjoy shooting them. But for "practical applications", the revolver is the primary choice.
