Sorry about postwhoring so much about my new SKS, but I want to take care of it in the hopes it takes care of me. I was wondering what type of replacement parts I should look into. What are the most common parts that break? What are the most common parts someone loses, or something that wears out? Right now my list of compiled parts is rather large, I was hoping if someone could tell me what I really need, and what I could phase out.

complete trigger group
gas piston
gas cylinder tube and handguard
action cover
recoil mech.
piston rod and spring
bolt and carrier
firing pin and extractor

Should I also look into back up stocks, barrels and recievers? Or would that be overkill, in the fact that it will cost about that much just to get a new SKS. But I want This for my survival rifle package. The extra parts would be easier to carry than an extra rifle. But other than that, I just want to take good care of my rifle. Any help on where I can get these parts or what parts I might also need, please let me know. Thanks.

Ammo :p , no really. I'm on my fourth sks since the ealy 90's and nothing has broken. I just clean them now and then. They just keep on shooting. Mark

Buying spare part sounds like a good idea, however there are several different county that have manufacture SKS and several different models with in some country(like PRChina).

I have never swap part from different model of SKS and test fired them. So you will have to check them for interchange compatabilty yourself.

It is best to buy the whole rifle(s) test fire it, clean it and store it.

Oh just wondering which model (country) do you have?

They're cheap enough. Buy a few for parts.

I'd buy some shooter grades as spares. And as extras, if your friends ever need a loner, or want to go shoot with you.

You'll probaby find that it's cheaper to buy a complete gun and take it apart than it is to buy all of the individual pieces to have as spares...

Like everyone else has said, I would just save up and buy another few full rifles.

Either that or save up some more and get a much nicer AK.
