I want to have my Colt Commander fitted with a beavertail and new trigger. This is one of the enhanced models with the faux beavertail. I realize this isn't considered major gunsmithing and any smith worth his salt should be able to do this but I want to know who do you think is the best gunsmith and nice to work with. Please don't bother mentioning Nelson Ford as I don't appreciate his attitude.
BTW, if any of you have opinions on which beavertail to get I'd like to know that as well. Thanks, Mike

In regards to which parts, my Enhanced Colt Commander is off getting a bunch of work including a grip safety and hammer. I went with a traditional ring hammer and traditional spur safety modified to clear the ring. Tripp Research is doing all the work including a new hard chrome paint job. I hope to get it back in time for Fathers Day. :)
In regards to which gun smith, you have more then a few guys in Phoenix who do very nice things with 1911's.
As mentioned, you have Yost Bonitz and Chuck Rogers. There is also the gang over at Robar. If you don't mind the drive, Don Williams is up in Chino Valley.

Is anybody familiar with the gunsmith that works at Legendary Guns on 19th Ave.? I can't remeber his name right now, but he seemed like a good guy to work with and that he takes a lot of pride in his work.

Garbato Custom Firearms (http://www.gunshopfinder.com/bytownresults.asp?area=Tucson&ID=4071) is in Tucson, but Phil (the owner) specializes in 1911's.
All I know about him is what he's told me, and what a few other folks have told me.
If you should happen to call him, please let me know your impressions.

After speaking with Ted Yost today I have decided to use his services. Seemed like a down to earth sort of guy and his prices were very much in line with other quotes.
