While I was on vacation, a new gun (well actually a used gun) followed me home :D . I picked up a nickel S&W, 19-5 with a 4" barrel. The only flaw that I found is there are a couple of slight scratches on the right side of the frame. While I was there looking at it, a local gunsmith came in and took a look at it. He said that the gun has seen very little use, and it's still very tight. The trigger has been replaced with what he called a combat trigger, and the trigger has a very smooth action.

I've only taken it out once, and then i only had a box of 38 specials with me. But it does shoot sweet. I can't wait to head to the range and try a few 357's through it.

When I get a chance, I'll snap a couple of pics.

A classic, and certainly a timeless revolver. Enjoy!

(Pics would be great-hint, hint!)

They're hard to see, but there's a couple of slight scratches near the hammer on the right side

Everyone should have at least one Model 19! :)

The 4" S&W 19, one of the nicest all around revolvers ever made. I have a 6" target 19-5 and a 4" 19-3. Both are sweet shooters and have great actions. Both are tack drivers and I don't think I loose much accuracy out of the shorter tube.

Since yours is nickel, you can get a set of the rubber finger groove Hogues. I have wood Hogues on my 19s because they are blued but a nickel or SS finish looks fine with the rubber grips. I have a 4" Ruger Speed Six with rubber Hogues and it is one of my all time favorite revolvers.

Now that you have a nickel one, you need to get a blued one! Keep an eye out for the older 19s.

Get some Flitz polish and you can probably get that nickel to shine like a mirror. :)

Did you check the forcing cone? I have heard of three 19-5s with cracks.
