i find 5.5 just about right.

long enough not to look stubby but short enough to be handy

I voted for the 7.5" barrel because my OM BH has that length. It is the best ballanced SA I have ever owned. And I can actually hit what I'm aiming at with it.
However I do like the 4 5/8 inch version too, and the next one I buy will have that length.
That way I'll have one of each.

IT'S SORTA LIKE THIS, BOYS:
4 3/4" FOR CARRYING [ AND SHOOTIN' ]
5 1/2" FOR ADMIRING OF ITS' SUPERB SYMMETRY [ AND SHOOTIN' ]
7 1/2" FOR SHOOTIN'.
I also have a 4" SAA 45 which is my carry gun in the winter sometimes, on a 2 3/4" gunbelt in a Mexican style shuck...now by God a man is armed!

I agree the 5 1/2 has the best symmetry. It's also long enough for a good sight axis, but not so long that it get's in the way in the field (especially cross-draw).
