Any chance of Colt coming back soon?

I would really like to get a Magnum Carry.
Actually, I would like to get a Centennial version of a Magnum Carry. Does anyone think that Colt might come back to making guns for the public anytime in the near future.

PS: I'm aware that Colt still sells some of their guns (certain 1911's, the Python, etc.) to the public but I'm making reference to the fuller spectrum of guns that they once sold.

Alan,
There is a nice fellow from Colt that posts over at the 1911Forum. He says that General Keyes is still trying to get them back in the handgun market and they are going with the classics until they can generate more cash flow and regain more market share.
Once they have grown their market presence to a point of sustained customers, then they intend to reintroduce other models such as the .380 pistols and more revolvers.
I've no idea when that will be, but buy a couple 1911s and help them along... :D
Perhaps you can ask Mark directly over at:

That would be nice to see the Colt 380s and the Detective specials make a comeback.

While Colt is expecting to reemerge in the public sector, I anticipate the union will screw them.

Alan, instead of looking for rumor answers here, why not contact Colt yourself and get the information from the source.
9x19, once Colt gains market presence to a point of sustained customers, on then they will bring out other guns? Colt probably has the absolute best sustained customers with a cult-like following. I don't see how you can get more sustained that than.
As for reemerging in the public sector, Colt never left - assuming that is what was meant by reemerging. The only way were perceived to have left the public sector was when they made the mistake of telling folks that they would not sell to the public and many Colt owners and dealers thought that the statement meant that Colt was getting out of the gun business on the civilian level and just concentrating on government contracts. That simply was not right. Colt DID stop selling to the public, but only in the sense that you could no longer directly order guns from them as an individaul. They never ceased selling guns to dealers to sell to the public.

I meant 'reemerge as a viable vibrant company manufacturing high-quality guns for public consumption'; I knew they never left.

I just recently got my Magnum Carry back from Colt. I started the procedure by writing a letter that explained the problem. I got a nice letter in return that said send it back & we'll fix it.
I sent it and it was returned this week, Turn around time was 35 days.
There were two phone calls during the process and the gentleman was very courteous both times.
The action is now the smoothest that I've ever had on a snub and I've had seven in the past 40 years.
In the mid-80's, I wanted to get a 20 year old Python re-blued. Four or five phone calls convinced me that the people at Colt did not care about customer service. I ended up getting the blue job done locally.
I still have to see how the Magnum Carry shoots. The original problem was accuracy, or lack of accuracy. I hope it's fixed.
This experience with Colt was very good and I hope there customer service keeps up the good customer relations.

I looked at two brand new stainless Pythons several weeks ago, a four-inch and a six-. Both were $1,069 on sale. Both had terrible single action trigger pulls, one worse than the other. Both had uneven, extremely heavy double action pulls. Neither had been finished at all evenly.
If Colt wants me to believe it's still in business, it can bluiddy well act like it!

I've emailed Colt to find out about their plans for production and to ask about if the blackpowder revolvers are permanently discontinued. They've not responded to any of my questions.
It's a shame the company has fallen so far off the map. Surely there is sufficient demand for their flagship products, such as the Detective Special, Peacemaker, Government, and Commander models. If I were in charge (an event that would surely be the final nail in the coffin), I'd have the company focus on its image of tradition. The multiple failed models over the past 15 years suggest leaving risky innovation to others and sticking to high quality manufacture of limited products. The GI style Government Models appear to be a ideal move to my way of thinking.
