I've seen a few threads re: Steyr pistols so I thought I'd try to learn a little about them. So far, I've learned that they haven't been submitted for safety testing in CA, they don't currently have an importer so we're not seeing any come into the US and they have trapazoidal(sp?) sights.
Does anyone know of a sight w/ more info?

10x ring,

You have gotten some dated info, very understandable.

Currently the Steyr M and S pistols have not benn tested in CA.

There is a current importer (GSI) and I have started to see M models with the new importer marked on them.

They can come with standard sights or trapezoidal sights. I love the trap sights. They point naturally for me.

I personally love this weapon. It handles quickly, good safety systems and double taps are a breeze.

Move out of Ca and get one.

GSI is no longer the importer of the Steyr M and S pistols. Supposedly the new importer is "GZS Baldwin" or something like that.

Have a look at this thread:

The current importer is NOT GSI...GSI dropped Steyr......it is Zanders Sporting goods, GZS....

They have an importer, and they are selling well....Dont worry about the importer. It is an excellent gun, and I love mine...mags are expensive (37 bux) Aftermarket accessories are hard to find. Such as tac lights and lasers....Holsters are hard to find....Galco makes the FLETCH high ride holster for it which is very nice.

The latest CDNN catalog has mags for the Steyr M- and S-series pistols for $24. They sell the M9 and M40 pistols for $289.99, the M357 for $369.99. I bought my M9 from them last year. The Steyr prices have gone down since then.

www.cdnninvestments.com

PT Night Sights used to make 3-dot night sights for the Steyrs, I don't know if they still do. I lucked out and found new ones for my Steyr at the gun show last weekend. This way, I at least have the option of switching to regular sights.

www.ptnightsights.com

I'll have to look into that Galco holster, I still don't have a holster for mine. I think Fobus made holsters for them too, don't know if they still do.

You can get some background on the history and controversy over the Steyrs if you do a search for them in the archives of www.thefiringline.com.

As far as I know PT still makes night sights for the Steyr M series. I recently order some from ArizonaGunRunners and I just got a notice saying that it will take 10 to 20 days and that they are shipping directly from PT.

I misqouted myself. Very embarassing. New importer is GZS, not GSI. Sorry ....

Fobus does NOT make a holster for the M series....They have a quasi generic holster that they claim will fit the S series, and a few other pistols. But I have tried it with the M, and it does not work. However the Fletch from Galco works wonderfully.

The Bladetech site listed the Steyr M for some of their Kydex products, last I checked.

Here is a very good review posted:

http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/review/steyr40.htm

This gun is a gem for the price, the fit and finish is up to par with much more expensive models.

I just got mine about a month ago and have put 250 rounds without a hitch.

CDNNinvestments.com has them for 299.99 and the mags are just 24 bucks.

The only thing that I question is if I remembered, there should be 2 lock keys with it. The 2 M9's that I bought both had one key only. Not that it's a bad thing, you'll rarely ever use it anyways.

I was wondering that also...My M9 only included 1 key....No biggie...but I had wondered about that.

I have confusion on the importer, as I wanted to inquire about parts and service. Here is the email I received today from Zanders:

Sorry but that is a misprint, we are not a importer of Steyr.

Thanks for inquiring

Hello,

I have read that you are now the importer for Steyr M Series pistols. Is this true and will you be able to stock parts, and offer service on these pistols? Thanks, Mike

Not that I am too focused on the importer thing, I just want to be clear on where I can receive warranty service and parts. Is ther another Zanders???

I decided to e-mail the Steyr offices on the status of an importer, this is what I got;

Dear Sir,
thank you for your e-mail of March 20.
Steyr Mannlicher started in December 2002 the cooperation with a new
importer for our Pistols in USA. Now you should get our pistols and
accessories from the distributor

DAVIDSON'S
or
CDNN

I called DTSS. The answer phone as AirGun Supply Warehouse. Just ask for the Steyr Warranty Repair department and they will out you through to Dennis. He is very nice and helpful.

Importation is being handled through Davidsons and CDNN.

Feeling better yet???
