In preperation of hosting President Bush

He is coming to my Nuke plant Wed. to make a speech regarding the new energy bill. Not that our security isn't tip top anyway but we are really going above and beyond on this, which is to be expected. Just about our whole force will be on site to help make it secure, not to mention the huge security staff that normally travels with him. This is kinda of cool for me becasue we'll be working along side his (CAT) counter assualt team, which I hear are armed to teeth. I mean we get to play with a few cool guns here but an M4 with thermal vision site is about the coolest thing we carry.

Anyway I am sure things will go well, it seems most of our force is pretty pumped about being able to protect the president even if it is just for that one day.

Arent those sights like 15-20k dollars new?

Are you just working with a huge pile of money or have you found a cheaper source for IR imaging sights? I would love to get one myself.

Yup 15k per and we have 10 of them. We actually would of rather spent the money on something else but our input wasn't asked for. I mean don't get me wrong they are cool and all but they really aren't a scope and are hard to get consistent accuracy with even at 25 yds.

They can see through smoke and in the dark though, just better hope one of the good guys isn't really too close by or you might hit him instead.

As far as the huge pile of money goes, yes we are a huge company and seem to have unlimted resources at times, then again at other times they make us pinch pennies. Funny how that goes. If it is mangements idea money is always available if the Security Force request something then their pockets seem to have nothing but lent in them.

I didnt realize accuracy would be a problem. That is money saved right there. Do you know what caused the inaccuracy?

I kind of want to investigate thermal camoflague (ie hiding someone from an enemy with thermal vision) and that is difficult without IR capable optics to test things against.

Well the thermal visons we have aren't actually a gun sight. They do have a rectacal but I think they were designed to be used as a hand held or with a head mount. They can me made to be relatively accurate for a time. They are attached do the rifle with a picatany rail system but they become jarred easily it seems. For example we would have 5 of them on the firing line a 25 yds. some of them would shoot 30 rds dead center while others would be accurate for the first few shots and miss the man size target with the final 25 shots even if the cross hairs never deveitated from the center of the target.

Now we also have ACOG's attached and ofcourse the iron sights with the ACOG being the primary sight we use. The thermals are there just for contigencies where we lose lighting or smoke is deployed. Many of us have suggested using tracer rounds, that way we would atleast have a reference to where the shots were hitting but that has yet to be approved. We do have other means in dealing with such contingencies as loss of lighting or smoke they just aren't advanced as thermal vison.

Like I said they are awsome as far as identifying targets in the dark or in smoke but they really aren't that great for the application in which we would like to use them.

Why would someone not just use a truck bomb instead of invading on foot? I mean, its not like there is anything worth stealing from a nuke plant, unless you guys are enriching uranium for a science project.

You don't think we would actually make it accessible to a truck do you? You can't get close to anything important without thorough searches.

We really aren't a good target for terriost just too many obstacles and we are too harden.

You don't think there is anything worth stealing from a nuke plant?

Ever hear of a dirty bomb?
