This is great.

I just picked up a Russian Izhmash CM-2 .22 target rifle- I’m a sucker for small bore stuff. Looked good: single shot, heavy hammer forged barrel, adjustable cheek piece, adjustable for cant and pull, all the goodies. Dry fired it a couple times with a snap cap, nice trigger. Yellow plastic tag on the trigger guard that says “SHOT Show 2002” Mmmmm, ok so maybe they displayed this rifle at the show. No wear on the breech face so that’s ok. Did the paperwork, and picked it up yesterday.

Back home to clean the beast, pulled the bolt and...”Hmmm…odd looking bolt, oh well…” looked closer. “What’s wrong with this picture?”

No firing pin.

“Nah that can’t be right…” Check out the parts diagram.

Still no firing pin. Disassemble the bolt. Ok- half a firing pin; the rear portion is intact, but the forward portion has been machined off. ***?

Uh oh. “SHOT Show 2002?…you don’t suppose they…?”

Shouldn't be any ADs with that!:D Can you take it back or will you try to find the parts to fix it?

I really HATE the idea of sending back a rifle I picked up yesterday; I've left a message with the importer, hopefully they can just send me the firing pin/striker piece. The firing pin goes in the bolt like a Ruger Mk II bolt so replacing the part will be a breeze.

I just hope they don't get all "It has to be installed by a qualified factory gunsmith" on me.

When I was looking at the rifle on the shelf, it never occured to me to see if the damn thing had a firing pin or not; I mean who checks for that?

Well... I guess from now on, I do.

Absatootly!

If you can't order a FP, have a gunsmith make or modify one to fit.

You may have a great piece at a great price. :D
