as you may know I have had problems with my new charles daly not going into battery. You folks kindly suggested I change the recoil spring. It was suggested I go with 18.5 or 20 lbs. I got both from wolff. My question is now that both recoil springs came with an enclosed firing pin spring. Do I need to install a new firing pin spring just because I change the rating of the recoil spring? I say this because I am comfortable with my ability to change the recoil spring but not too comfrotable changing the firing pin spring? Your advice and comments as always are appreciated

A shooting pal of mine had the same problem with his C-D not going fully into battery and the 18.5 # spring fixed it right up. As for the FP spring, it's your call but my daddy likes to say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Then again, there's the gummint version: if it ain't broke fix it til it is.:D

I left the stock firing pin spring when I put in the Wolff recoil spring. No problems like that.

An 18.5# Wolff spring and a polished ramp.
If you load a cartridge into the chamber and remove it without firing the pistol: If the primer has a dimple, change to a heavier firing pin spring; if it does not show a dimple, leave the firing pin spring as it is.
A metal polishing cloth and a finger or a small dowel will do the ramp polishing. If there are tool marks, you need to use 600 grit wetordry paper, then go to the polishing cloth. I use a Blitz cloth.

put the 20lb in the gun. did not replace the firing pin spring. put a 100 through ti today. everything was perfect. It was a delight. I truly see why all you boys and girls love your 1911's. i was grinning from ear to ear.(':D')
