Don't want to make this mistake twice!

Ya'll may have seen some of my earlier posts, so you may know about my first purchase. A Remington 710 in 30-06. Yuck, I soon found out. I recently parted with this gun for $150 after paying $350. I put a S.A. XD45LE on Layaway. Only cause I'm very impatient and they already sold the 1911 I wanted.
So here's my question. Am I going to make the same mistake again? I don't want to. I have noticed there seems to be alot of strife between Glock owners and XD owners. Maybe more so jealousy then anything but I don't know. That's why I'm asking.
Couple of things. I don't like the feel of a glock. No matter what model it doesn't fit my hand right. The XD felt right from the very start. I really like Springfields and would like to stay with them. You know it's like the big debate on which auto manufacturer is better, ford or chevy. I was always a chevy guy. So I figure I would stay with Springfield as opposed to going with HK, or Sig. But I don't want to buy a lemon or a piece of crap either.
So yes or no, and if yes why, and if no why as well.

Well i havehad them all and still have some have a glock in 9mm and xd in 9mm like um both but would give edge to xd ..
Hk's are good so are 1911's still go them to  i have over 250 though my xd subcompact with no function problems.
finsh is little thin but after waxing it with car wax i havent had any more surface rust problems not sure if this will be a problem with new guns ... Heard they changed finish

Well you have said it yourself. The XD feels right for you. That is what is important. I use a 1911 myself for that exact same reason. The next thing you do is get lost of ammo and shoot the thing. It must be instinct to use it. That is how you prove a weapon is good. It is the man driving the thing.

Glock and XD pistols are both very good. Anyone claiming that either one is junk is a moron that should stay out of adult conversations. :cuss:

I agree,The XD and the Glock are both excellent designs.
The XD is a bit more complicated on the inside but that doesn't matter unless you are a gunsmith.
I sum it up by saying XD pistols are Glocks for people who can't stand Glocks.

I'm still sold on the XD I have on Layaway, unless you guys have something I should know about them. Like have they ever gone KaBoom? Not that would make or break my decision but I would still like to know.
The only thing I don't like is the .45 GAP Cal. Unless it grows in popularity and more ammo manufacturers make more ammo for it. Heck, .45 ACP you can get away with Wolf brand ammo for 5 bucks a box. I can barely find .45 GAP ammo for under $13 a box. :cuss:

The XDs have fully supported chambers so no worries about the KaBoom.
The only issue is the round itself, as you pointed out. It is unclear whether the .45 GAP will take off and whether prices will go down a bit. I have an XD in 9mm and I really like it because of the wide range of ammo, both cheap plinking ammo and quality self-defense ammo.
As for comparing with Glock, well you've already found that the XD fits better in your hand and that's what really matters. Quality is equal or better.

iirc, there has been at least one xd kaboom. this places it in the company of every other gun, ever. :)
personally, were i you, i'd have gone with a caliber other than 45gap. i don't see it as having market staying power, and i'm not 100% on if it can be rebarreled to the 9mm, .40, and 357sig as with the latter two xd's. however, in terms of the bullet leaving the barrel, it should be perfectly fine.
if you get an xd40 or an xd357, then i know you can add a barrel in the other caliber or in 9mm.

Is a Springfield XD, as a brand, a mistake? No.
Is getting anything chambered in .45 gap a mistake? Yes.
If you want a .45 (ACP) with a more ergo design, get a Baby eagle, CZ97, Taurus 24/7 or MilPro, or a single stack .45, like a *Springfield Armory* 1911 model, or any number of other single stack .45s. If you want an XD, then get it in .40 s&w, or my favorite, 9x19mm! The gap will have a cult-only following in 10 or 15 years, and therefore ammo selection will be LOW and ammo cost HIGH.
But if you don't switch, it's not a mistake of the same magnitude of the 710, IMO. At least the gap will be popular for awhile, will always be reloadable, will probably always have *some* storebought ammo available, and the pistol itself is quality.

Yes, I have an XD9 and its worth every penny. My dad also has a glock that I use alot so that proves that I have no secret alliances with SA. Read the June (i think) issue of guns&ammo HANDGUNS magazine, they did a 20,000 round torture test of the XD randomly selected from a gun store with no failures.
I do not know how the XD45 would perform, some guns are good designs for only certain calibers..I would not question SA though. I own about $2500 worth of springfield guns and haven't had a problem with any of them.

I would reccomend the XD 40 rather than the GAP... mainly for 2 reasons... 1 capacity, 12+1 rather than 9+1 and second, the .40 isn't going anywhere... I am not sold on GAP... It may catch on, but it may not...
Full disclosure, I've had an XD 40 for over 2 years now and it is worth every penny!

Another vote for the XD-40. I love mine. It is accurate and reliable and I have not had any troubles or the wierd rusting problems some people say they have had on their XDs.
When you take a pitsol straight out of the box and it works perfectly and gives you no troubles at all...it is easy to be fanatical about it.
I wish I could say the same for a few Colt and S&W pistols I have owned, but truth-be-told...the XD was more reliable out of the box.

PS at theGander Mtn. store near my house, the 45GAP ball ammo was selling for around 20 dollars for 50 rounds. Most Wal Marts sell 40SW practice ammo for about 12 dollars for 100rds. Which would you practice more often with?
