Just got a chance today to really try out a gently used stainless Single Six that I bought some time back. I had, shortly after purchase, installed a B-Square no-smith base, a Weaver 2x scope, and Hogue rubber grips. Also a brass overtravel stop button set to remove any but the tiniest fraction of trigger overtravel. Sexy looking setup in an industrial way. Using sub-sonic CCI I was cutting 1 to 1.25 inch groups at 25 yards from a sandbag rest. Needless to say I was really pleased. It shoots better than I think I can. BUT, being a real geek about these sorts of things, I would like to try to better the grouping too. I have in mind a Belt Mountain oversized base pin and a set of Wolff reduced poundage spring kit. (I had already unhooked one leg of the trigger spring which helped a lot, but I want to go the extra mile and put in a lighter spring).
Anyone done these things and what were the accuracy results? What poundage mainspring should I install to give reliable but not overkill ignition?Thanks all. I look forward to reading about others experiences.

I would think that ammunition is much more likely than springs and base pins to give you an accuracy boost. Try some Eley or RWS target fodder. Base pins and springs are along the lines of wheel spinners and stripes on a car. They won't improve the mileage or the speed.

The Belt Mountain base pin WILL most likely help accuracy. All factory Rugers come with a little play in the cylinder. A tighter base pin will fix that up. As said before, though, with rimfires, it's all about the ammo. Good thing is, it's cheap enough to buy 10 different kinds and try them all in one sitting.

I plan to try Pistol Match ammo from several makers. I still want to change springs and base pin though. What spring weight is factory? Can someone tell me?
