I just saw the commander of the Navy (don't know his name) on the news addressing his troops and he said to be prepared because when the time comes "Its Hammer Time". I laughed so hard I couldn't stand it. What is going on latly? When did we become a nation of 4th graders?

Maybe that new "shock and awe" strategy we've heard so much about is to play M.C. Hammer until the Iraqis surrender. Hell, Id surrender under that kind of psycological punishment.

It's Hammer time!

I don't know if you folks are aware but from 1945 to 1949 or thereabouts there were a whole lot of indepth studies done on the statistics gathered from WWII. Now to those of us who are less enlightened (and have never been field grade officers (thats LT. Cdr and above for you Navy types)) it might appear as though this was largely a ploy to keep a whole bunch of Col.'s and USNR Capt.'s on active duty until they had enough time to find another job. But none the less they did produce some rather interesting findings. One of those findings was that the best way to survive an artillery barrage was (are you ready for this?)

scroll down some...

! to be somewhere else when the artillery shells hit their target! :o

wow! what a revelation! 10's of thousands of 1940 dollars were spent to come up with that! Not only that, but EXACTLY THE SAME THING APPLIES TO AERIAL BOMBARDMENT! No, really! ...and your parents' tax dollars paid for this :cuss:

with that as the historical example, just think how much worse the cliche' could have been!

I think this is how the whole thing unfolded.

1. Bush told Saddam that his "a$$ was grass and he was the lawn mower."

2. Saddam said "Bring it on".

3. Bush then said "Your dead meat"

4. Saddam then said "You don't want none of this"

5. Bush replied with "Oh no he di'ent!"

6. That takes us to "Hammer Time"

It makes more sense when you have the whole story.:D

I guess Hammer Time is better than "Its Hip to be Square Time". I hate that song.:barf:

I must be getting old...

I recall the term used in my youth. I ran cross country...term meant we needed the ponts and to 'buckle down, focus, and win"

Also 59 southbouth to Houston with a Brunette...Off duty officer returning to Houston told us at the gas station in Marshall, TX "Hammer Time", I disconnected the speedometer buzzer (pre set dealie that only went as high as 80mph, theory was if one set for a mph, and buzzer went off to slow down--before cruise control) So he "ran front door" and we" hammered" 59, GF leaned over, noticed 110 mph..."umm honey, think he is pulling away"...

buckle down, focus, get serious, ...

And I'd like to think he was referring to Charles Martel.
