I keep hearing about people subscribing to threads, hearing about threads through subscription(s), and see the option for it on the user control panel. What exactly is this, how does it work, what're the ins and outs, etc? I'm a relatively new member, so I haven't mastered everything yet :o ! Thanks.

Eightball - if you write a post to a thread you become ''subscribed'' - and if you select in your user CP to get email notifications, then each time a thread to which you are subscribed is added to - you should get an email - which lets you know of course that someone else has posted.

You can also - see above where it says ''thread tools'' - subscribe even if you are not posting - this means if you are interested in a thread and want to follow it as it grows but not have to post, maybe gain more info from folks - just select ''subscribe'' from the drop-down.

So, if i subscribe to a thread, it dies, and a thread opens later on in time along simliar lines to the first, do i still ge email notification? I remember that someone said this was the case on the recent AK vs. AR vs Mini-14 debate on Rifle Country. Is there some special issue i must deal with to get updates on dead threads, or am i just missing something? :confused:

If a thread ''dies'' - or shall we say ''goes to sleep'' then while you will still technically remain subscribed, there will be no emails unless and until that thread is re-vitalized by a new post.

If a new thread starts, even if similar to an old one - you will need to subscribe to that anew - either by posting or, by using the option in ''thread tools''.

If a thread has died and stays dead, then how can you get an update anyways!? :) There would be no post activity!!
