And then I saw a second-hand Fed Ord ar-15 sscope mount like the gunaccessories one. I get the impression that those are the best design, especially for a bushnell 3-9x scope?

Thxnk

Oh crap, is this one of those "you get what you pay for" situations? Why can't I have a dirt-cheap scope mount hold a zero? Life's unfair.

ARMS makes one with with a cantalever forward mounting area, too. This also secures to the front of the carry handle. ARMS 39A (http://www.armsmounts.com/catalog.php?action=124&item_id=41)

Another idea is to bed the scope mount to the carry hand so as to provide a better interface with the carry handle.

Life is not unfair

professional problems require professional solutions,
in other words,
you only buy quality once

on the A2 carry handle the ACOG and the Colt 3 or 4 x 20 scope work well

adding a mount and rings and an optic on top of the carry handle
moves the "height above bore" well into chin weld territory

most magnifying optics AR shooters set up a flattop

Ok, thx. Poor old Bushnell, never gets used.

I also would suggest an arms mount but I perfer this one: http://www.armsmounts.com/catalog.php?action=124&item_id=74 , it allows you to move the scope, especially if it is a long scope, futher foward.

This isn't going to win anyone's respect, but for $8.99 I don't see how I can go wrong buying the cheapo MacCheapy off ebay first, and if it's total crap I will hardly notice the money missing when I sink $60 on the ARMS mount... I have to do it... Will to resist fading...

I am absolutely delighted with the Leapers copy of the Colt short carry handle scope. It has enough magnification to get me great groups out to 200 yards. About $40. It also features the bullet drop compensator but admittedly, I have not experimented with it yet.
