Im looking for the old .30 cal remington cartridge to replace some spent ammo at the range....and maybe a little more for myself. Can anyone lead me in the right direction for purchasing them? If not where can I buy shells that will work which I can load/reload myself? I think I read somewhere it takes the .308 bullet but the grain is basically the same as the 30-30. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
-Dev

Remington still makes about one run of .30 Remington brass a year. I bought some from Black Hills for a buddy last year. If they don't have it, Huntington's will, or Buffalo Shooter's Supply. It won't be real cheap, but at least it's available.

Hope this helps.

I am bumping this to the top because I have a friend who just inherited a Remington 141 "Gamemaster" rifle and I am going to reload some ammo for him.

I found brass on-line at Graff and Sons. I have dies. I am just wondering if anyone has any "pet" loads for .30 Remington using RE15 powder and 150 grain bullets, since I have them already on the bench. If I did not horribly misread, 30-30 Winchester loading data should be exactly the same as .30 Remington, right?

listed loads for .30 Remington. (Not any more, it's just too rare.)

Essentially, it's a rimless .30-30. I would use .30-30 bullets (which are .308) and starting .30-30 loads. You'll need a shellholder for the .30 Rem case, but .30-30 dies should work.

I think most of the guns chambered for .30 Rem were the Remington models 8 or 81. They are long recoil operated semi-automatics. I would not attempt anything at the top end of the load data without careful workups.

Just thought I would let everyone know that John at Gunstop Reloading here in the Twin Cities hooked me up with some .30 Remington brass as well as some load data from an old manual.

I ended up with this as a good load:

-150 grain round-nose bullet
-34.1 grains of IMR 4064 powder (started at 32.0 grains and max listed load was 36.0 grains)
-Federal large rifle primer
-Brass trimmed to 2.040"
-OAL of 2.520" (max listed case OAL was 2.525")

A Lyman shell holder #15 works for .30 Remington, and Midway had RCBS dies.

The rifle I used to work up the load is a Remington Model 141 Gamemaster pump-action, and it shot 1/2" at 50 yards with the listed load, but opened up to a tad over 2" at 100 yards from a bench with some 70 year-old fixed power scope that was already mounted and (suprising to me) zero'd dead-on.
