Apparently it was a target of opportunity that they just shot at. Time will tell if we got him. I just heard on the news that the British troops haven't started to move which lends credence to the idea that we got some good intel and took a shot.
Interesting few weeks coming up.

Enjoyable article (!?), but there's no reason to believe that it's authoritative or that it's not.

uhm, any target of opportunity that gets the full attention from three aircraft carriers full of aircraft (this is an honor? :what: ) has got to be pretty senior but on the other hand remember that SH has (or at least up until recently *had*) a half-dozen look-alikes who would stand in for him as required. That being the case we may see quite a few more 'targets of opportunity' in the near future - say a half dozen additional not counting SH's boys...

According to Rita Cosby on Fox News now:
Targets were Saddam, his two crazy sons, and 2 senior leaders based on intel from this afternoon.
They're hopeful that at least one of the 5 was in the bunker just outside of Baghdad,
Maybe all 5...? :neener:

I'll bet they got Saddam!
Right now, he's supposed to be making a speech live on Iraqi TV. Problem is the guy speaking has too fat a face, too far left displaced nose, and is wearing thick glasses. He's also reading (poorly at that) from a prepared statement. A very poor double, IMO!

Blackhawk,
Same thoughts here.
Granted resolutions and the like get lost in feeds, but even the voice, mannerisms, ...etc., seemed a bit off. Thinking about interview with Blather...seems different.
snipered...I hope so.

I think you guys are right. I immediatly thought that he looked a little different during that speach. Similar, but not quite right.
Also did you notice that the Iraqi military is saying that we hit military targets? don't they usually say that it was a civilian school/hospital/house that we hit? I have never heard them admit that we hit military targets.
This just might have been the quickest war in history.

It didn't look like Saddam to me either. I am sure that the CIA already has video experts on it. Even if it was, there was nothing in the speech that indicated it was given after the Tomahawk attack. Could be a prepared speech, he could be dead. We can only hope.
Edtied to read: Fox News reporting that an operation in N. Iraq today may have been targeted at SH.

I make no predictions on whether it was Sadam or not but attempts to try to infer from body language and inflection may not pan out especially if one of his kids got turned into a pile of greasy red goo.
I hope they did not stop bombing after the Bagdhad hit.
Lets hope that thjey are running very rapid very serious ops against the 300 areas where they think that the CBN stuff was stored.

Rita Cosby just reported that they had phone intercepts plus ground sightings of Saddam & Sons & 2 other leaders going into the bunker under a private residence to spend the night.
Following the hit, other targets of opportunity were whacked throughout the country.
I'm now optimistic that Saddam is no longer wasting air. :neener:

Fox News just reported that George Tenet revealed that we had a fix on Saddam at the time of the attack. IOW, confirmation is coming in.
My optimism that we got him is escalating! :neener:

Evidently he mentioned the date. Hard to say if it was a double...The talking heads are all discussing his distinctive voice, so who knows.

Hard to say if it was a double...Only if you've never seen Saddam himself on TV. :D

look at this pic, looks like a double to me.
I don't have cable. Local Fox network is airing regular programing( other networks too)
IIRC someone posted the game plan was within 3 hrs of starting this engagement-- to target SH and sons. I sure hope so. Waiting on confirmation with fingers crossed.

I just listened to a radio report (CNN internet radio) that the CIA is thinking along the same lines and is examining the video for A) clues that it's not him and/or B) clues that it wasn't really live (taped earlier for such an event).

The key thing that makes me think that it wasn't a double was that he was speaking. It should be real easy to analyze the voice compared to other speaches that he's done that we have on file somewhere. I'm leaning towards recorded earlier because it wasn't mentioning anything that just happened. I'm sure that he has a bunch of tapes on tap for most any occasion. It is just a matter of picking the right one to fit the situation.

This from Drudge:CBS: 'Senior Officials' Think Saddam May Not Have Survived
Thu Mar 20 2003 10:33:00 ET
"I am being told by several senior officials not to take that taped speech Saddam gave last night as proof that he survived the attack," CBS NEWS reporter David Martin said on air.
"They say the evidence that put him in the bunker last night was very reliable, and they are confident that the cruise missiles and bunker-busting bombs that were fired at that bunker last night hit the target. So now, intelligence experts are studying the tape to determine if it is really Saddam, or a body double which he is known to use from time to time. And they are running a computerized voice analysis, comparing that speech with known recordings of Saddam's voice. But that's a process that takes awhile. So we may not have a quick answer."
"There is considerable belief in this government that they may, in fact, have gotten Saddam."

It would explain the wait on further action, too. Now we sit back and let the Iraqi military commanders figure this out, then process the surrenders.

Somehow it almost seems a bit too easy though, wacking saddam this quickly. I hope he's dead just as much as anyone else, but something tells me he's not dead. I cant wait until he's dead though, that bastard needs to go...

I believe precisely nothing from British so-called "news" sources: not only does that sorry excuse for a nation have nothing remotely like our freedom of the press, but it's packed to the rafters with whacko leftist extremists.

As of 1PM pacific time, US ground forces were advancing in southern Iraq and had captured a tiny town (name not given). They said US forces were moving in ahead of schedule because a build up of Iraqi tanks to block the area had been observed, and they wanted to preclude that move.
Doesn't sound to me like anybody on either side thinks a sudden surrender is going to be forthcoming. No confirmation on Saddam being hit or his sons.

something unexpected just happened! i had a really great idea, that i think everyone here would support and probably could get the rest of the country to support as well...
here goes:
the day that SH is confirmed dead, should become a National Holiday! and every employer would have to honor it and either give their employees the day off or pay them double time and a half to work on that day.
Blackhawk
March 20, 2003, 05:33 PM
Bad idea, Spiff! :fire:
All that happens on National Holidays is that government workers get the day off, and it costs taxpayers a bunch more money.
