Show-offs!

Today I was at the range and got to play with the various goodies I brough (i wanted to zero my Kel-Tec SU-16B at 25 yards with XM193 ammo, as well as make sure the SKS was zeroed). I was accompanied by a member of this particular range (who suggested we go on Monday) and one of my other friends.

Very fun experience, but there were two "show offs" there. First was a group of relatively young guys (I'm only 22, they were probably 25 or so) with a McMillian rifle in .50 BMG. They let my friend shoot it twice, and offered it to me -- I only put one round, as I didn't want to waste their money. They let us keep the casings, which was nice. Curse them and their gobs of money for having a firearm I can't buy anymore in California! :banghead:

Also, a member of the Berkeley Police showed up and was practicing semi, 3-shot-burst, and full-auto firing with his issued rifle (presumably an M16/M4 variant, though I didn't see it -- very recognizeable sound though). While I understand the range is open to the public and he had authorization from the staff to shoot the rifle on auto, it's still frustrating to have to listen to the sweet, sweet sound of full-auto fire knowing that the California DOJ, in their Infinite Wisdom ( :barf: ) regards Title II weapons as verboten for us Mere Mortals(tm).

One of these days I'll move out of California (probably right after college, though I'll be going to New York to finish off college), settle down, get a nice job, a wife, kids, a backyard range, and at least one machinegun and .50BMG rifle. It's good having a life plan. :D

I never realized how tough california gun laws are, I take my ar-15 out in the country and wipe out trees on full auto. By the way if you are looking for a good 50 bmg go serbu, I love mine, it's easy to maintain and never jams plus the price is actually affordable to us middle class gun owners. The smiley says it all :neener:

You know, I wonder how many .50s were sold just because California was banning 'em...

Probably more in the year leading up to the ban than the total number sold in the past ten years.

and at least one machinegun and .50BMG rifle.

If you are coming here, the .50 is fine. But no Title II/Class III... :(

Full-auto in a shoulder-fired weapon is little more than a fun way to waste ammo, IMHO.

Your point being what?

I remember watching Jim Scoutin on American Shooter on cable. He rented a full auto Uzi in Vegas, and you should have seen the smile on his face! (He mentioned it himself.)

other than money, I'm failing to see anything troubling about this concept.

i go to the range sometimes with 5+ full auto weapons. a few times ive taken an M249SAW, a Glock 18, HK MP5 of one variant or another, sometimes a G3, a HK G36K, and an M4. depends on my mood i guess.

i wouldn't call it showing off....but i suppose in TX where Class III is more prevalent it is a different environment.

i was shooting once and had the S/O SWAT Team come over on their break (they were shooting on another range) and ask to shoot my stuff. of course i let them. :)

Where do I get one of these full-auto AR-15s?
