I gotta say I love revolves...BOOM...BOOM...BOOM....BOOM....BOOM...BOOM... click... tinkling brass....click...click...click...cklick...cklick...cklicck...zzzzz...click.
autos are cool to. i just love the feeling of having a hot glock in my hand, feeling the slide lock back, and then slapping a magazine home and feeling the slide lurch forward. this sounds wired, but i like reloading with autos. skip hi-caps!

Sounding? Well, I like the way my USPs sounds when I rack a round, or how my P7M8 sounds when I close the slide by squeezing the grip
Most intimidating firearm sound is that of a pump shotgun racking a round....:D Unmistakable ;)

For cool sounds, I've gotta vote for the sound of a single-action revolver being cocked.

For handguns:
I second the trigger on a single action revolver and the sound the cylinder makes when you spin it. (I can't help doing that) But lately I love the slick and solid sound my P220ST makes when I work the slide. As solid as the "thump" sound a BMW car door makes when its shut. And no, the P220ST doesn't come with leather interior, GPS, or ABS :D
Longun:
Remington 870 Police when I rack a round. Nothing in the world sounds like that.

If you john woo two handguns too close together, they make some kind of awesome "ping" sound. Dont ask me how I know this...

well I hate to say it as I'm not a Lover of Gastons weapons. THE coolest sounding pistol I've ever fired was a Glock 18.
I was also amazed at how easy it was to control.

I like the Glocks where you can ear back the hammer, you know, like they do in the movies.

for handguns, i'd also vote for the .454 casull. it's deep and solid BOOM is very satisfying :D
of course i'm real curious about that new s&w .500 round...

The bellowing boom of black powder goes all the way down to my toes. Second would be the ratchety clicking when spinning the cylinder of a single action cylinder.
Can't help it. While I enjoy all types of guns, I really like the old timers.

For handguns I like the sound of a 45 colt SA revolver being thumbed back and shot, traditional loads too.
The "shuck" of the bolt going forward, "cling" of the rounds being stripped from the links, "boom" of the firing. An M60 is AWESOME sounding, the shuck boom of the first and the following banging are one of the finest sounds in all of guns.
The barrel of a 5"/54 naval gun rings like a bell if you are close enough to hear it and not deafened by the boom, we are talking a boom several magnitudes higher than anything most will ever hear.
A stiff loaded 357 or a 454 are terribly obnoxious to me, a very sharp noise. 44 mag and 45 colt just can't compare, although creative loading of a 41 can....
The old 870 and the FAL bolt operation are really soothing sounds for me.

I love the sound of my Kimber .45 when I rack the slide.

My wife's STI racegun. Three expansion port compensator, two barrel ports. In 9 by 23 Supercomp (115 grain jacketed hollowpoints doing 1470fps).
Makes my bones ache when I'm standing next to her when she is shooting. The person on the trigger doesn't notice, but anyone close can feel the concussion as more of a bone-deep rattle than a loud "bang." Darn subharmonics.

I have a .22 Magnum Automag with 3 1/2 inch barrel that really gets the attention of all shooters within 20 feet when I fire it at a cadence of two rounds per second. Someone always comes over to ask what I'm shooting.
Maybe some day I'll be able to sell that POS.

My Thompson Center Contender, Magna-ported in .45-70 with Remington 300 gr loads goes:
snick, BOOOOM!
Clears out an indoor range fast.:cuss: :o

Now... combine the SAA hammer cock with some cartridges loaded with FFF black powder. Really makes em' stop and look at the range. (Not recomended for indoors) A whole different sound, recoil feel, and smell. Only drawback is the extra cleaning time....you really wanna get to all the nooks and crannies.

I just shot my S&W mod 53 with some Peters rounds. This my friends will get your attention as will a Ruger .30 carbine revolver. Both get my vote as a unique muzzle signature!:neener:

The coolest sounding? It would have to a 20mm Vulcan mounted on a M-113 chewing up everything in it's path.
Oooops!:o Handgun was specified wasn't it?

I can't think of a very cool sound, probably due to the double hearing protection.
We need a handgun that sounds like, "Pancor Jackhammer." Rolls off the tongue, don't it?

For me it would have to be a 1911 blasting through an IDPA stage. Makes me giggle just thinking about it. :D

The sound of a heavy lead bullet (300+ grains) loaded with slow burning powder, the lead lube burning off after the shot. .44 mag or .45 colt SA revolver or magnum Deagle.
Or really heavy bullets in a .45 acp.
You know, the bullets go so slow that with the sun to your back, you can actually see the bullet in flight.
You can actually hear the gun unlock.

humm, well I think all handguns have a character all their own.
Whether its the sounds they make dry firing, live firing, racking a slide, unlatching/closing a cyl or loading gate. Sounds of brass hitting the ground, popping from a cyl . Big bore small bore.
Gotta admit though burning a Caspian with comp in 9x23 kinda kewl :D
Hey someone has to check the custom race gun my gunsmith built for a client, I mean after all gunsmith is gonna be biased :D
13 steel plates in row being pinged, the sound of the gun, brass hitting the pavement...life is good.

Cool: 357 Maximum fired DA when folks don't know what you have. They look at you funny.
Uncool: Guy four stalls down trying out his new desert eagle .50... damn thing was so loud I thought he had touched off a shotgun. Made me flinch every time he pulled the trigger. I took a time out. Had a smoke and waited for the guy to finish beforeI bothered shooting again. I figured at $20 a box he wouldn't be shooting long.
My fave pistol sound? The unique CRACk of a .36 Colt Navy. Not as cool as the rolling boom of a 12 bore black powder shotgun, but very cool.

The report of a .45 ACP revo. The S&W 1917 5" has the most satisfying CRASH of a report. No earsplitting sonic crack, not anemic pop. Juuuuust right.

Alright, so it's not a handgun:
Lee-Enfield No.5 MK1. Like and huge-arse BOOM, but really short. Like a staccato boom.
Next would be my Remington 1100 outdoors with a long barrel. You can hear the bolt cycle. BOOMschlack-schlack.
Handgun? I don't have that many handguns, so my favorite is the boom of my Glock with hot loads. It makes a boom with an added sound of air leaking slowly for a brief moment. Wierd.
Ejecting all of the shells from my Dan Wesson at once makes a great sound.
