Getting converted... Help...

Hi folks,
I think I am in trouble. I always considered myself a semi-auto guy. It is all my friend Cliff's fault, he made me shoot it. And now I fell in love with this little gun... How can you not like something that launches a chunk of lead almost as big as the whole .45 Auto cartridge, almost twice as fast?...
The problem is, the path I am on is dangerous... for my poor wallet.
Advice? Sympathy (to the wallet)?
:)

Upgrading from semi-automatic pistols isn't entirely without rewards.

Team Walrus don't shoot them old antiquated guns.

Where is the light rail? You don't get to use them tricked out mag extensions unless you have magazines. I mean you getting lazy or what? Picking up brass keeps one tummy looking like a six pack...I mean some shooters have the 18 pack look. You got something against replacing mag , recoil springs and such ?

I don't make grip screws for old antique guns. I make grip screws for poly guns...comes with a real kewl tewl ...you are gonna miss out, the kewl tewl can be used to pop off tabs on keyboards to clean 'em. Dang Whippersnappers, your supposed to buy new stuff to keep Star Wars and Batman sales up...didn't they learn you anything in skool?

I know how you feel. Except for my old Ruger mark 1 and my Bhp I just traded my last semi for a Ruger Blackhawk, and am planning on a few more wheelguns real soon :D (if my wife doesnt kill me first)

yeah, the good old days...fully loaded with slavery and lynch mobs.

Revolvers are effective...quaint, but effective. :neener:

E-eh... No help from this crowd :) It is getting to the point where I actually like how the handle feels when it is carried under a light jacket, as opposed to the flush fit of the .45! Can you imagine a 629 as a carry gun?! Stop it, people! Tell me I am wrong or something...
I loaded some 300 gr XTPs for it. I tell ya, those steel plates get quite a swing when hit! I flinch less every time I shoot it. Darn Cliff puts me to shame every time shooting 6 out of 6, but I keep trying... 4 out of 6 for me, usually, at 25 yards. I plan to clock them, just ordered a chrono from Midway.

Can you imagine a 629 as a carry gun? Haha - been there and done that!! May be a tad large but - goes well in a sho rig!!! As well as suitable belt slide!

Your new affliction is only just beginning - soon you will have to add cals like .454, 45-70 - oh the cannon class just goes on eatin' up the purse money! :D

P95, you hit the nail on the head:soon you will have to add cals like .454, 45-70 - oh the cannon class just goes on eatin' up the purse money!I just caught myself yesterday, paging through G&A, looking for more reading on .454 and thinking, eh, that Ruger Alaskan in .454 looks so-o nice. They say, stouter than a .44, but I seem to have no problem with a .44 at all, just a nice little jolt. I will have to go to Gander Mtn, check it out. This would be the end of my purse money for sure...
I eyed a .460 SW but a 6-lb revolver? I don't know, folks, it might pull my pants down (both literally and money wise) :p
If nothing else, I will pick up a Nagant anyway. I've been wanting to see the sealing cylinder gap for a long time. If my wife says anything, I will argue that it plus the Alaskan would still save money over a .460 XVR

Haha - .454 ''stouter''??? Don't be fooled by that round, because in its full glory (instance Hornady 300 grain full loads) it is felt by some to be quite brutal. I wouldn't put it quite that bad for myself but, sure as heck a full house .454 is VERY different from even a hottie .44 mag!! Note also, IIRC the SAAMI specs for the Casull are 65,000 - a very high pressure round.

I was always lusting for a Smith 500 but have to say, now have switched to wanting an X frame in .460 - just because so versatile. The weight tho is good - helps for control. My BFR in 45-70 is getting near that weight and it makes for a much more controllable result (or is it grin!! :D )

I visited with a friend, whos son in law is a 6', 250 lb guy. The friend told me, after he watched him fire a 10" 500SW and take a step back on recoil, he turned down the offer to try it. I think I wouldn't pass it up myself, just to see how is it. But the price of the 500 is a little too steep for me, especially after not having been able to resist 4 other firearms this year. There's still room in the safe but if I keep going at this pace I might find myself out of the house, along with the safe...
The .460 is interesting indeed, but boy, is it big! I never hunted with a handgun but this one wouldn't be much different from a rifle for carrying it in the mountains. I also read about the furious muzzle blast from it, and I don't hunt wearing ear muffs, not routinely...
Anyway, I will certainly be looking to try a .454, .500 and a .460 at the range, some folks there seem to have at least the first two. I have to tell you that the .45 feels so normal and easy to shoot now. I think this might be the way to learn to shoot the .45 well - switch to a .44 or above for a few months, then go back to the .45!
