Saw a "as new" older (block frame with no ILS) Springfield Milspec in .38 super (parkerized) on the used rack of my local shop. It had just come in and the owner had not priced it yet. He will call me later with the price.
Just curious as to thoughts on a fair price. It's no longer available and .38 Supers are hard to come by in the PRK.

I'd say no more than $500, if it's a standard, unaltered Mil Spec. The super chambering commands a higher premium than a 45, but I wouldn't pay a ton of money for it. Still just a basic, no frills 1911. Might pay more if it's been customized, would depend on what's been done and who did it.

Got a call back from the shop owner. Firm $595. Lance Martini, a local smith, did a reliability and trigger job on it, but I passed. I was thinking about $500 myself.
Oh well. Now I can go by that Buckmark 5.5 Target I've been debating. :)

$500 might look better to him in a few months ;) That's way high. You can get a Kimber 38 for a few hundred more.

Too much, but Turners when they had them here in California used to charge like 60-80 dollars more for the 38super version over what seemed to be the equa l45acp version, why I don't know.
If you don't feel the need for a Colt and want a lesser priced handgun, I believe the Philippine Rock Island is still on the California approved list in 38super. Check it out on DOJ website and find a dealer that will order you one at a decent prices.

Remember, I'm in the PRK. While I can pick up just about anything used in state, on the new market, I can only get pistol on the DOJ approved list:
Armscor Precision RIA 1911 / Steel Pistol 5.16" .38 Super
Firestorm Government Model .38 Super/Blue Steel Pistol 5" .38 Super
Kimber Pro Carry HDII Super / Stainless Steel Pistol 4" .38 Super
Smith & Wesson 686-7, 6 Shot / Stainless Steel Revolver 4" .38 Super
Smith & Wesson 627-4 38 Super / Stainless Steel Revolver 5" .38 Super
Springfield Armory PB9113L (ambi safety) / Steel Pistol 5" .38 Super
Springfield Armory PB9113L / Steel Pistol 5" .38 Super
Springfield Armory PB9114L / Steel Pistol 5" .38 Super
Sadly, the Colts have fallen off the list.
Kinda wonder about the two S&W's the DOJ has posted.....

I've seen the RIA .38 Super here for $360. I'm sure prices are higher in PRK, but I've been very happy with my Armscor made guns. Use the search to read my reports.
I've the RIA in 45ACP that I put a J-Point red dot sight on and its been a fantastic gun, trigger so close to my Kimber its hard to believe and 100% function out of the box. The 45 is a bit less expensive than the .38 super.
I wish Armscor would make the RIA in 9mm as I've no intrest in .38 Suoer since I'm finding it hard to find time to reaload these days.
