Inglis HP or Walther p.38?

Hiya folks.
I've got a hankerin' to use my C&R to add another WWII pistola to my collection. I've got leads on two pistols I've always wanted -

a 95% Inglis Hi-Power (RAF marked)
or
a 90% AC 42 coded Walther P.38

I'll probably end up owning both eventually, but I've only got the dinero ($450) for one at this time (and barely so, at that).

I've already got the 1911A1's covered:D

Please lend me your advice on which one I should choose first, and why. I have an equal affection for each pistol right now and I'm too feeble minded to make my own decision!:banghead:

Thank you very much for your insight!

I've never shot an HP or a P38, but have handled both and dig the ergonomics on both of them.

From a purely utilitarian standpoint, the HP might be a better choice because of the abundance of standard capacity magazines available for them.

However, I know I'd probably get much enjoyment from either of them. Maybe you should just flip a coin?:)

You poor BABY:) :)

This is like having to decide between New York Strip or Ribeye.

Based on nothing what so ever, I would think a 95% Browning with RAF marks would be worth more as a collectable.

Thank you, Gentlemen.

Methinks I'm going to go with the Inglis Hi-Power;) .

When it comes in, I'll let the nice folks here know how she shoots.

The HP hands down! Nice collector AND shooter. P-38 nice collector average shooter.

That sounds like a win-win decision. I think the Walther might be a better deal right now because of all the recent imports. The Browning is nice and if you can pick a good WWII version up for $450, I think that is a deal also.

Get both!

Oh, yes, they will both be mine someday. Bets are on the Inglis HP to be a better shooter than the P.38, so I think I'm going to go that route. The HP I'm looking at was made in '44 and issued to the RAF, then FTR'd in '62 and mothballed:) . It's a little loose but I like 'em that way:neener: .

Thanks for the advice!

I think you have made the right choice.
After all, you have picked the sidearm of an ally, not an enemy.

The RAF used Hi-Powers in WWII, hmmm interesting.

I know that some special forces did, but not the RAF.

Definitely get the Hi-Power. The RAF heritage seems rare to me. Probably shoots good too.

I read something several years ago--during the Desert Shield thing, I believe - - -To effect that the RAF had been required to turn in their Inglis Brownings, to be replaced with Walther PPK pistols in 9 mm k. Something about the Brownings being so old and scruffy looking, and the fact that modern cockpits were a little tight for "such a large pistol." Those who cared about handguns didn't like the idea at all. Apparently there weren't enough of them to make a difference.

I read a British article during the Gulf War about the RAF pilot's.
They mentioned the pilot's picking up their Walther PPK pistols prior to taking off on a mission.

The article said they were issued, quote:"The despised Walther PPK pistols" unquote.
