No-flags order (http://www.iht.com/articles/90340.html)
CAMP NEW JERSEY, Kuwait As U.S. troops roll toward the Iraqi border this week, they have been given orders on two matters of decorum: no throwing candy to Iraqi children, and no displaying flags regimental, state or even the American flag.
Politically Correct warfare?

No throwing candy? Are they afraid that the kids might trip and be run over like in Somaliland?
We'll see more low profile silliness after the victory. Very moronic order as it reinforces the idea that we should not be doing this. Let's hope this silly policy is reversed (soon).

I can buy the kids and candy bit. It's just not a good idea to encourage a bunch of kids to get close to moving vehicles. Not that any kids anywhere in the world would engage in pushing and shoving each other to get a better spot, of course...
I've seen the pictures taken right after an M-60 ran over a VW mini-bus in Germany. It was not pretty. I suspect that a child would not have a nice time under the wheels of a Humvee, either.

The 'no candy' thing would discourage children from approaching troops. If the kids were habitually running up to our soldiers, an enterprising BG might decide to strap some C4 onto one of the little tikes. If the kids stay away, it would be safer for everyone...

To whom it may concern:
Our guys don't need armchair commanders. Read the story. The order is one designed to help win the peace. If you wanted there to be an order you liked, you should have gone up the fish ladder to get the rank and command where you could give ROE orders.
